I say hire Holbrook if you can’t get Sully or Schlossnagle. Holbrook is one of the best recruiters around and he would love to get a chance to show UofSC they made a mistake firing him. At the very least Clemson needs a shake up on the staff, new pitching coach for sure.

Obviously, you have ZERO baseball knowledge. Holbrook did more with less than any in ANY sport in recent history.

This is the problem. Delusional fans who think Clemson has its pick of coaches. Sully makes at least 2x Lee's salary and we cannot win a bidding war with UF. Why would you even bring up his name as a candidate for HC of Men's baseball?

They forget that the coaches that were under the HOF coach Clemson forced to resign, to hire Monte, worked under Jack and may not like the idea of how things were handled/have some sort of morale boundaries that money could not buy. Especially half the money they already are making.

As I mentioned in another thread, it wouldn't matter if Jack Leggett were the AD, neither of those guys is leaving their amazing job to come try to revive the Clemson baseball program.

The Western Carolina HOF or the State of Maine HOF? Folks throw the HOF out in comments so often that CJL must be the Michael Jordan of college baseball. While He had a good record it did not contain a lot of hardware which should be the basis of a HOF induction.

Did not contain a lot of hardware? By that you mean one type of hardware specifically - National Championships. The everything was not perfect comes off like that of a spoiled brat, imo. "Well, all that is great but I did not get everything."
The same could be said about Mike Martin at FSU. Everything does not always work out for everyone in life. There are situations that pop up and take what could of, should of, would have been - life is unfair like that. Both atleast had their teams in the hunt, which is what is need to have a shot and both were excellent coaches in their time.

Conference championships or National Championships. Not a lot of either. As I said JL had a nice career but his HOF was based on longevity from local orgs

In 22 years, we were in the Super Regionals half of them. Out of 11 Super Regionals he made the CWS 6 of them. We didn't forget the saying "Follow the Paw to Omaha," under Coach Leggett, but it has been mostly forgotten now.

What did we warn out of all those super regionals? Losing twice to the coots in Omaha? Again, nice career but not HOF material

Because the coot thing was about pretty much having tryouts in masses, then running players off that did not excel. Jack was having 2/3 guys get selected high enough in the MLB Draft every year, that they went ahead and signed with the pro team and never made it to Clemson. Then there was no AAAish tryouts to fill those holes, like at CooterU. This is how they made their run under Tanner. The one where Jack had CU right there, too, just lost by a run or two. Jack was obviously doing a better job than the lynch mob would like to admit. He refused to trade fundamentals for the exclusive long ball, now they scream fire the long ball, bring back small ball. Hth?

The only reason Holbrook even has a job is because CofC's AD (Holbrook's best buddy) wrongfully terminated its previous coach because he knew Holbrook was about to get canned at scar.
The major settlement for the previous coach confirms the wrongful termination.
CofC's baseball tradition going down the toilet confirms Holbrook is worthless.

He is an excellent recruiter and a great assistant coach, but has struggled with in game decisions that a head coach has to make.

There is a reason both Clemson and South Carolina are where they are and it's not due to coaching. I've stated this a few times but 2009 was the beginning of the downfall of both programs. While South Carolina hung on a little longer than Clemson did they too couldn't overcome Title IX and scholarship reduction for college baseball. Those few years after 2009 South Carolina was able to still recruit elite guys even with the reduction bc of their success from '10-'13. The NCAA is a joke and the fact they act like they care about the kids is hogwash. Most kids can't afford paying for the majority of their scholarship so they make bad decisions by entering the MLB draft where they are never heard of again. Not only that but they don't have an education to fall back on bc of the NCAA and Congress under Obama bringing Title IX to college athletics. College coaches and baseball players everywhere should not only scream from the mountain tops but if I were a coach or a player every time I was in front of the camera I would blast the NCAA. There is one thing in today's society that changes the mindset of the nation and that's public opinion. You get public opinion on your side and show how unfair these rules are and how they are hurting thousands upon thousands of not just your average high school baseball player but inner city baseball players. I'm not about social justice and being a snowflake but I'm not above using it for righteous reasons. You want to help Clemson baseball then petition the NCAA and Clemson. I don't know much about common market but I know that is another huge reason Clemson is where it is. I don't know if that was a Clemson decision or not but those 2 things probably exclusively are the reasons Clemson baseball is where it is.

And I go to a few of CofC games every year. I don’t believe Holbrook would be a good hire. He’s a good recruiter but I don’t believe he has what it takes to be head coach. Especially at a place like Clemson / South Carolina.
He is friends with the CofC AD and that’s probably why he’s the head coach here.
