It's going to take crowd funding in a state like Alabama for them to compete with UGA and Tx in the bidding wars of NIL. Dabo is the only one that could get all the churches to pass the plate twice.
Hope he stays!

Maybe some will worry about it, but I will assure any or everybody that I want waste one minute worrying about what Dabo is thinking about or considering when it comes to the open HC-ing job that just opened at Bama. That is a decision that Dabo will make on his own or with his family, and whatever that is there isn't one thing that our fan base can do to sway his decision one way or the other. If he wants to step into that whirlwind that Nick will leave behind him for whoever to come in and try to do what will be expected him in todays atmosphere that college FB become.
I'll thank him for all that he's done while he was at Clemson, and I will say a prayer for him bc he will need as many prayers as he can get, but that's all that I can offer him. I will be more concerned about who our administration will hire to replace him and pray that they'll be able to do as much for Clemson FB as Dabo did. If they hire the right coach, they will have a much easier job at keeping Clemson FB an elite program than Dabo had with building it from the ground up. That's about all I have to say about it except, I hope that he stays and continues with everything he's done, but if he doesn't, oh well, I have really enjoyed all that he did while he was our HC, and hopefully the next HC up can keep us going in the upward direction!!! Go Tigers, and we will survive whatever happens!!!

I am thinking Dabo would stay. He wouldn’t want to follow in the footsteps of the GOAT and his youngest son is still playing at Clemson.

Probably so, but he's also smart enough to know what he's walking into. Completely different circumstances. Dabo's been here 18 years. His family is raised. Sure, Clemson is a special place. But Bama is home.
One can put up a video on their website with 25 drunk students chanting anyone but Dabo. And sorry David, I don't care how many insiders you think you have, there won't be anyone in the know until the inks dried unless you're a family member at his dinner table.
Make no mistake, Bama, and Saban in particular want Dabo. Not a doubt in my mind that Dabo and Saban talked before the retirement was announced. Most have no idea how close Dabo and nick are. People on here, including Clemson media, have zero clue how philosophically close Dabo and nick are.
Posters immediately think every time a portal kid went to Bama they automatically got paid and/or promised a starting spot. Neither could be further from the truth. Nick despised nil as much as Dabo. Dabo and nick are in lockstep on how you run a program.
So, contrary to what David, or anyone else may think about getting killed by a cow, I can promise you at least one person won't be shocked when Dabo's announced as bama's next head coach.
I pray that God will keep Dabo here. I pray that someone in Bama's AD office has a big enough voice that can nix it from happening. Again, make no mistake, most in Bama who write the checks want Dabo. I pray that Dabo's will and desire to get Clemson back is stronger than his desire to coach at Bama.

Have you talked to Bama fans?

I'm married to one and know several others. While Dabo's name comes up... he is not often their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice. My wife is the exception as he was her 3rd choice behind Sark and Lanning. The Bama fan base has a tepid at best response to Dabo right now. Saban might be high on him, but a segment of the Bama fanbase was beginning to feel the same way about Saban that the National media (and some Clemson fans) feel about Dabo. As much as they love Saban - I'm not sure a huge percentage of them want him picking his own successor.

Correct. I'm on board with what you're saying. And listening to their talk shows, like Dabo's, they were ready to hang Saban after the Texas loss and the poor showing against South Florida? Certainly were a lot of Tyler's calling in.
Heck, they were on him last year after uga won the natty b2b. That crushed them, especially since Kirby came from there.
I probably should edit what I wrote but my main point was to convey how much alike Saban and Dabo are.
One reason I am praying the powers to be want to go with "new money " vs "old family money " if that makes sense.

Nick used the big Brute way of running his program, Dabo uses love for his kids, and pure blunt honesty. IMO they run their two FB totally different...

Yeah, I read that and couldn't agree more. Dabo's definitely fed up with what's going on. I think he would if he was 10 years older.

Dabo may be fed up with the current state of college football, but he also may want to show his way is ultimately the best way to run a program. He doesn't strike me as the type to just throw in the towel.
Update: Let me clarify, I meant he will stay at Clemson and continue to show the program he built is way to do it.

I've always believed that you don't realize how well you have it until you don't have it anymore. If Dabo trades Clemson for Bama, it could totally ruin his coaching career that looks really good to this point, but it could easily get trashed at Bama bc the fan base and the two schools are totally day and night different of one another.

I agree and Dabo and Nick Saban believe that college football is like that Dr. Pepper commercial where the transfer portal is out of CONTROL. College football is quickly becoming the minor league of the NFL more so than at any other time in the past. It is ALL about the money forget anything else.

I do think Dabo and Nick Saban agree on college football and where it is headed, not for the good. I do believe Alabama would want a HC that has WON a National Title so Dabo OR Kirby would fit the bill. Kirby isn't going anywhere GA is his Alma Mater and Alabama is Dabo's. There will be a push but I still think Dabo Swinney stays at Clemson University. I could be wrong and if that happens I say we go after Brent Venables and bring him back to Clemson. I think in the end Dabo stays and that makes me happy.

It's nothing compared to the weight on the program at Alabama. I expect he's familiar enough with Alabama to know the differences in the fan bases and culture.

When asked in the past, a couple of things Dabo has said are “never say never”, and “I will stay at Clemson as long as they will have me”, and something like I will only leave Clemson if we get an unfavorable administration. I really think and hope he will stay.

Great story, David. The one thing that nobody is mentioning right now is that Saban announced that he was staying around the Alabama program to protect the culture and assure continued success. I can't imagine Dabo or any other highly successful coach wanting any part of that.

I think the Alabama job is a poor fit for Dani. He lacks the flexibility to want to deal with players not cut out his preferred mold. In 5 star heaven not everyone wears a crucifix on their sleeve

Dabo also knows Clemson fans are A LOT more forgiving than Alabama fans. But, if Dabo decides to accept the offer if given to him…God Bless him…and Clemson owes him a lot of gratitude for what he has done for our entire sport’s program. Nothing else I personally can or want to say. It is football and I personally have plenty more important things to be concerned with.

Dabo spent 11yrs at Bama as player then coaching staff. 1989-2000. He came to Clemson in 2003 and for about 21 years has made it his home and hus families home. Bama2024 isn't Bama89-2000. Anyone who has ever revisited as an alumni to their almamater knows going back after so long is bittersweet.
Dabo may have emotional strings at Bama, but football dreams? He's the Clemson Bear Bryant of the new century. He still has more to do with getting the Tigers back on top. You think he'd cut bait and run? Then you don't know his character.
Other guys will run 'home', Dabo has built his home. Bama was a milemarker, Clemson his whole highway.

I lived in B'ham in the post-Bear era. 'Bama fans are not easy to please. Stallings lost his first three games and realestate signs were posted in his yard, and he was the 3rd coach after Bryant. Stallings won a national championship, yet he is hardly remembered at 'Bama. Dabo could answer "Mama's call," but I think he is too wise to do it. He is the Clemson legend already and I expect him to continue to add to his legacy at our little school.
