Winning attracts fan not style of play. When Purnells teams sucked we struggled to fill the place as well.

for a bigger program. Then, you said he needed new facilities to recruit so he can win. So how can he win when he's not getting what he needs? Seems like you're making excuses for a fella who was brought in to keep us going strong and instead continually misses the tournament. So in response to your OP... Don't worry, he won't win here, and other schools won't be clamoring for a .500 conference record coach.

He had a tournament team when we hired him
Feb 10, 2015, 11:09 AM

He even made the tournament his first year with OP's players. Hasn't made it since. But because this year he might finish on the bubble he's "trending upward?" and "winning with what he has?" How about you stop making excuses for a guy who took over a perennial tournament team and turned them into an "overachieving" NIT team.

He took over a program that was in bad shape due to OP basically not recruiting his last year having his prized class be full of busts. Brownell was left with two years of empty classes and one "prized" class full of busts. It has taken him a few years to recover from that.
This year he had the adversity of losing KJ to the draft. Clemson is not Duke Kentucky where we can go grab an McDonalds AA to replace a guy leaving early.
Those are the facts of the matter. Once again none of this has a #### thing to do with my original post.
Even if this was a different coach the Original Post still applies. Clemson shows no dedication to basketball so dont get mad when the coach shows no dedication to Clemson. Maybe if I type slower you will be able to understand that point.

Clemson showed dedication to bball when OP was winning

Like I said, you'll have an excuse for Brownell at every turn. Just answer me this, how many consecutive years will he have to miss the tournament for you to say he shouldn't be our coach? 10? would that do it for you? You're like the Tammy Bowden lovers.

WE absolutely showed dedication. You couldn't find a seat as a student in those days. Now you have 3 sections to yourself if you decide to go... maybe we should have a "taco night" like in Glory Road.

And everyone else is wrong. Apparently during the OP years we all sat at home while our team won big games and went to the tournament. We were hallucinating when we were in the packed house and stormed the court. Brownell is running a better program than OP did and there are 5983 excuses for why Brownell can't make the tournament, none of them being his own fault.

Everyone else is wrong and just misreads your drivel, and that we're all mere peasants who don't have degrees from the same school you do. You're the only graduate from CU, and if there were others, they would all get down on their knees like you do, and proclaim Brad Brownell as their basketball saviors.

not when it comes to recruiting and getting in players. Congrats on showing you have no clue how collegiate athletics work.
I guess in your ###### up mind fan support is the reason Football has had the surge since 2008. Couldnt have anything to do with the massive spending by the administration on facilities.

Facilities for football have been HUGE no doubt, and couple that with the fact they were getting finished as Dabo "the recruiting wizard" took over it's hard to really tell which was the bigger factor. Basketball hasn't received the bells and whistles like football obviously, but they did get a brand new weight/nutrition facility in LJ during that time and the updates from the most recent renovations are still solid... nobody wants to come to a program and play defense these days. its all about that jump shot

The renovation in 2002 was a joke.
Once the roof issue was found they spent a ton of the budget on fixing it. That is why just over a decade later our facilities are still at the bottom of the league.

isn't going to spend buku money on a program that isn't winning, right? You understand that in order to spend money, you have to make money? I guarantee you that if Brownell had continued the success that OP had, and we were on ESPN once a week, playing in ACC title games and making the tournament every year, the plans would look a lot different. You want to blame someone for the crap plans? Blame your boyfriend, Brad.

Sadly I really like Brownell, I think he's doing what he can with what he has... but that's also the problem... he needs to go out and get better players. I was there every home game under Purnell because we were winning in exciting fashion with Trevor Booker and KC Rivers. I give Brownell one more year to prove he can bring in the players.
