Observation on transfers

Recent players who redhirted their first year and then later transferred:
CHAUNCEY GIBBINS (> Tulsa, never played)
JOSH BEADLE ( > Boston College)
ASA THOMAS ( ? )

That has me wondering what does it say about Dallas Thomas and Ace Buckner? Not labeling it an indictment just an observation/question...

Recent upperclassmen that transferred:
JAVON WHITE (> Kansas City)
KHAVON MOORE (> USC-Upstate, never played)
JOHN NEWMAN (> Cincinnati)
CLYDE TRAPP (> UNC- Greensboro)
AL-AMIR DAWES (> Seton Hall)
NICK HONOR (> Missouri)
ALEX HEMENWAY (> Vanderbilt)
CHAUNCEY WIGGINS ( ? )

Dawes became a key player at his landing spot. Honor, Trapp, Newman were serviceable. All of these players were easily replaced at Clemson.

These underclassmen went on to NCAA tournament teams and either started right away or eventually started. TWO, made it to the NBA:
TREY JEMISON ( > UAB - NBA)
OLIVER MAX-PROSPER (> Marquette - NBA)
LYNN KIDD ( >Virginia Tech)
BEN MIDDLEBROOKS (> NC State)
RJ GODFREY (> Georgia)
DEL JONES ( ? )

*Jemison must have been a late developer
*Max-Prosper, enough has been said
*Kidd & Middlebrooks were technically HS seniors their first year at Clemson. Kidd caught a free ride for a year and bounced. Middlebrooks was behind PJ Hall
*Godfrey left after starting 0 games as a Soph. He started all 33 games at GA this year but his stats are nearly identical to last season at CLEM, and he's playing just 3 more minutes per game. But a starting role is what he wanted.

Am I missing anyone?

That is one thing I don't agree with Coach Brownell. Stop with the redshirt freshmen crap unless a player is hurt. Remember Ace Buckner was redshirted because of surgery on his shoulder..Dallas Thomas they played a little even if he was a little thin. But I'm have heard he is staying. Think Coach has learned his lesson.

I tend to agree. We have several that red shirted and promptly left. Never got a minute from them

If a kid isn't ready to play, why not redshirt him?

Especially if he's like 4th on his positional depth chart. Why burn a year for scrub minutes when you don't know what they'll do? Especially with 15 scholarships now

let em get minutes against really, really bad teams. Like GT and SCAR.***

Football and basketball have different rules regarding redshirts

If a kid gets hurt they can apply for a redshirt

Yes, but looks better now. Could be a Stacy Augmen type player.

as of now he's a complete unknown. He is a far better athlete than we had this year at his height, which is reason for hope

I never thought certain guys would play right away, like Dallas or Asa. Others, such as Del, O-Max, Dillon were ready to contribute right away. Perplexing at times why the first two didn't see the floor more during their fresh. season.

As much as we all ended up appreciating JZ, I always felt this could potentially spell trouble for guys like Del Jones or even Dillon or Jake. But who knows the real reason why certain guys leave.

Someone who wants a significant role wont be happy playing a few token minutes.

No need to burn a redshirt and play a guy if he isn’t ready.

The huge underlyer here...All these dudes wanted to be starters and they just arent any good...Players come in without having a realistic thought that its a blessing to play D1 basketball and the likely hood of them being in league is slim to almost none...No matter how many programs you bounce around to...

Pretty sure Jones winds up making a nice haul. Thomas likely trying to position himself for that. Wiggins? Only has one year left. Doubt he signs some big NIL deal anywhere, but I think everyone realized, including him, was best to move on. He's a good kid, I wish him the best
