Alabama fan on my tugboat
Aug 12, 2019, 5:18 PM

Met a new hand from Meridian , MS who is a diehard Tide fan . He seems like a really nice guy , and he claims to not dislike Clemson .
Keeping in mind that I am the captain and he's a deckhand I could be persuaded to believe that he's not telling me the whole truth on his Clemson-Feelings .
We both agree that Clemson choke-slammed his team in January though ...we do see eye-to-eye on that historical fact .

In 1981 in the Army my boss was Keith Waters, former Clemson baseball player and brother of Charlie Waters of Tiger fame. After the third game of that miracle season I told him Clemson would win the national championship. Well, you know what happened. From then on he thought I was magic and I got promoted fast.

Should probably fire him just for the safety of your boat and crew. An eight month low tide is too much to risk.

On another note, Meridian, MS has a great history. Originally settled by the Choctaw Native Americans, it became a major center of industry in the South and was the last major supply base of goods and material for the CSA during the "Civil War"(?) until Genl. W.T.Sherman destroyed it in Feb., 1864. (Yes, I'm one of those "buffs", and where's DSP when you need him to expound and clarify? Oh, of course, he's been banned again for being the rebel he is....) Btw, I was reared in upstate NY, but I grew up in Clemson and upstate SC.
Go Tigers!!!

This guy knew of Dexter Mcleon , one of the first things he mentioned when I walked in wearing a Clemson shirt . He graduated in 1985 , so he's close in age to Dexter and they went to the same HS .

Really good for short periods of time.
Yeah, some call it conditioning.
I call it 'spotlighting'--they are told they have to wait their turn to enjoy the spotlight, but then they get tired and sometimes bored with all the attention. They're ready to get rid of that spotlight by the time it finally moves to the next guy in line.
They learn that the spotlight isn't always your friend.
