CPJ fired?
Sep 17, 2018, 7:04 PM
|

If the score gets out of hand Saturday? I think morale is at an all time low during the CPJ era at GT. On top of that, this game is a great measuring stick. CJP and Dabo started their tenures at about the same time and it was a competitive series at the point of the transition to them as coaches. It really shows the direction of these two programs.

That’s crazy. TL16 doesn’t fit the scheme but I think I’d still offer him.

Which is why I really hope our coaches are adjusting our offense to fit his talents.

They should can him and hire Neal Brown away from Troy . That guy always has a competitive team down there and appears to be a pretty good football coach deserving of a chance on the big stage .

I still agonize over losing the 2009 ACC Championship game to them in Tampa . CJ was amazing in that game , and we had the better team I thought . Plus , it was cold that night in Florida .

We did force a turnover on downs in the 4th quarter. I still remember the big smile on Spiller's face when we made the stop. He then led us down the field to take the lead late in the game. Our defense could not hold it though.

That one was tough. CJ really left it all out on the field too.
The GT program has just fallen to a laughable level. I’m actually concerned that if they fire CPJ, Elliot or Scott would be good candidates for that job.

CPJ just got an extension until 2022 so even if he has a losing season he might get one more year to turn matters around, but he loses a dozen or more seniors so next year he has a relatively young team. Ga. Tech is up against UGa., Clemson, and better funded programs conference wise so he has challenges.
I don’t expect him to coach much longer if he continues losing because that is not to his liking at all.
Go Tigers!

I wish the ACC would go ahead and re-award the championship. Give VaTech/Clemson co-champions. Heck, name VaTech the champs (7-1 compared to our 6-2) if we must split hairs. While not popular, even giving it back to GT is better than no champ.... (I thought the reason to vacate was valid if thin).

Triple option teams are feast or famine. When things don't work you have a little flexibility- you don't have the Personnel to change your scheme. You can't even really start throwing it morw

You have to have athletes to make that offense work at this level. His recruiting has been laughable, hense the results on the field. No amount of Walt Deputla screaming across the airwaves can save PJ now.

While I was at the Braves Clemson Day this summer
Sep 17, 2018, 10:02 PM
|
|
a Tech fan saw my Clemson shirt and came up to with some supposedly witty remark and I asked him how much longer Johnson would be allowed to stick around as coach. He seemed dismayed and asked what I meant. When I said PJ needed to have his offense enter the the 20th century, he quickly shot back, "This is the 21st century man." He just walked away when I said, "My point exactly."

will have a major rebuilding project on his hands.
It will take any coach at least four or five recruiting cycles to bring in the kinds of players and depth they need to implement a more conventional offense.
A couple of names that immediately come to mind, however, are Philip Montgomery at Tulsa or Neal Brown at Troy.

I can say with pretty much certainty that Johnson is not well liked at GT among the folks that work in the athletic department. It is my understanding that he is rude to many of them and his personality is about like you see on the sidelines. He has not made a lot of friends during his tenure.

Actually I don’t think that’s true at all. From what I hear he is well liked and personable. I think people make up what they want to hear or believe. I’m sure he probably doesn’t care what every person out there thinks anyway. As none of these coaches should.
