It it a website. Do they go to their academic advisor? What actually happens to start this process?

Most schools have admins in their ADs specifically to handle athlete admissions

I think the first step for most cases is to convince yourself in your head that you’re much more talented than you think you are and the coaches are dumb.

The 1st step for the good players is to be approached by another team and offered lots of money... Then you enter the portal potty.

Evidently you no longer have to be vetted by the admissions any longer. Coaches can get you min school after a game on the field.
