They are not going to hire someone unproven at winning the big games. You don't pay 40 million dollars to fire a coach in the middle of the season to turn around and hire a wannabe.
So, you are absolutely correct. I don't see them hiring an assistant coach at some other school or coordinator. I'm sure they are willing to pay 8- 9 million a year to land the coach they want. I have been to PSU at least 6 times. It is big time football and huge stadium. The town is a college town like Clemson. In a beautiful location. Most people in Pa. are Penn State fans. I have life long friends there and they are all die hard PSU fans. They don't like losing.

I agree with everything you said except the 8 to 9 million. Penn State is a dream job for a head coach. They will have to pay top 5 pay to get a good coach, so that means 10 plus million. They will get their guy I have no doubt.

I think they'll go after someone who's a bit more proven in big games, and Mullen has a pretty good track record there.
Terrible recruiter, and I wouldn't want him for Clemson's coach, but he knew how to prep a team for a big game.

They are gonna want to make a bigger splash than that. My guess, a recognizable name that will cost a fortune. If for no other reason than to satisfy the fans and, more importantly, the boosters.
