Awesome. I was there. How did you find such a ticket in that condition? He made more $ off 4 chords than anyone in history. However as a close friend with a terminal diagnosis recently reminded me, you can’t take your wallet with you.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I recently lost some 91 Braves , 81 Clemson NC ticket and other sports memorabilia.
Hope you can start a new collection.

Guess he wasn't popular enough yet for Littlejohn. That was not long after he released the Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes album with Margaritaville on it and he was still gaining momentum. If he had done a show in Clemson when I was there in the early 80s, it would have been a different venue.

Thank you for sharing. Been a Buffett fan since 1974. I was 12 years old but absolutely loved his ballads (still do). Also love an occasional toke or 4 with a few buddies while listening to Buffett. I hate he's gone, but he'll never be forgotten by my family. In fact when my daughter was married, our father daughter dance was to Little Miss Magic by Buffett. Her favorite book and song as a child was Jollymon, and I recently passed that children's book along to her one year old son. My daughter got a tear in her eye as I read it to her son for the first time.

completely different. You made your money selling albums not tickets. You toured to support and promote your albums, like advertising, but the big profits were in record sales. And it's a helluva lot easier to sell a million albums than to appear before a million people live. But the whole music sharing/downloading thing kinda killed that, so artists had to pivot. Now tours are the big money makers. Which is why you find yourself paying several hundred dollars for good seats to see a top act.

March 7th 1980 was my first date with my wife. Of course it was a Buffett concert. I saw him 19 times in concert. "Forget that blind ambition, and learn to trust your intuition."

He was a far better businessman than a musician. Not saying wasn't a great entertainer, but not really that talented. He just knew his audience.

off "Margaritaville merchandising" than his music. Music was just the seed money. Real estate development, casinos, restaurant chains, hotels, whatever. Either he was a brilliant businessman or he surrounded himself with some. And he managed to avoid the usual potholes - multiple divorces, severe drug addictions, etc. He kept his chit together.

Phenomenal talent for 3 decades, but died in poverty. He made a bunch of cruddy deals record deals, shot a bunch of folk, and later had a hack like George Thorogood cover all his songs and make millions.

I'm sure you will be delighted to know that J Buffett was a HUGE fan of President Biden and performed at the Whitehouse and some campaign events. (He was a Never-The-Rumper.) J Buffett was smart and he got the need for honest politicians. (TheRump lied over 30,000 times while he was the President, including the BIG LIE that he is still spouting.) Just the other day, TheRump said that Biden was trying to get the U.S. into World War II, to the enthusiastic cheers of the MAGA cult. We all know TheRump is stupid. I hope someone will let him know that WWII ended in 1945. Seems the cult crowd didn't know.

Real estate, casinos, restaurants, hotels, etc. Either he was a brilliant businessman or he surrounded himself with some. He avoided a lot of the usual mistakes like severe drug addictions, several nasty divorces and all that. And it helps when you're a solo act and don't have to split all the money with 4 or 5 band members...

He wasn’t a solo act except early in his career. His Coral Reefer Band certainly enhanced his music immensely, especially the shimmering live version of JOLLY MON.

He wasn't a great musician. Most of his music isn't good.
He had 1 iconic song and 1 or 2 other songs that maybe should get occasional radio play.
He was a marketing genius.

He had some time to build that wealth. Just saw on news last night Taylor Swift joined the billionare club this week which is rare for a performer especially one in early 30's. Madonna for comparison at it for 40 years net worth 885m.
