The policeman should not have put...

Jun 13, 2013, 10:55 PM

a mere $500 on the report. It's being reported that way on news sites. Sounds to me more like the custom lockbox / lock was about that. I'm sure the manhours of the investigation will be much more than that, not to mention damage to a cultural / historical artifact.

More like he should have listed the items separately... $500 for the lockbox and priceless for the piece. It is incredible how low someone is willing to go.

I was wearisome about that too

But what kind of value can you seriously put on trees in Auburn than maybe the price if its refined wood? It may not matter in terms of conviction. I wondered why the police report didn't say it was forced entry. Wouldn't it have been trespassing and forced entry into the case?

Unless it was a contractor who was allowed in there.

The reason that $500 was put b/c ..........was stated by the police on scout site ........they don't know the eventual amount. this is normally handled by insurance co or judge if someone is caught......It is just an estimated amount. This is normal. I wouldn't put too much in that part of the report.
On the charges those are just preliminary. The forced "entry" of the protective cover falls under vandalism, or icould see putting a charge of malicious injury. There was a good article on the TCI site that goes in depth of potential charges.
