Scouting report for future opponent.

Aug 28, 2022, 1:58 PM

Can't glean much when you are playing a completely overmatched team. Well, you can't glean much good.

1. FSU had 3 backs go over 100 yards.
2. Jordan Travis looked solid.
3. Defense totally dominated.
4. WR's appeared to be much improved.

So what? It was Duquesne. That is what was supposed to happen. Anything less than total domination would be cause for concern.

If I were an FSU coach analyzing that game, I'd be looking at potential areas of concern and what improvements needed to be made. Fans can have the halo effect and think good thoughts with a 47-7 blowout win. Coaches can't.

Here is what I noticed last night (and I didn't hear anyone else comment on this): Nole defense had a hard time setting the edge. Neither DE or LB seemed to do a good job.

It could be that the defense was very vanilla. It could be they didn't want to show anything - no blitzes essentially in the entire game.

But, Duquesne got most of their yardage breaking containment.

I assure you, if I noticed it, so will every coach watching game film. I'll be watching very closely to see how LSU attacks the defense.

Nuff said. This is a Clemson board. Y'all don't care about FSU. But, come game week, you will. Just file this away till then.

An old saying, eight teams biggest improvement comes between the 1st and 2nd game.

It is good you gave us highlights. Am sure most of the fanbase forgot you played and did not watch. Plus you had to compete against UNLV and Florida A&M playing about the same time. You dominated an FCS team at home who has a stadium that holds a whopping 2200 fans. The high school my kids go to holds 12000. Basically you beat a high school team, well a small, very small High School. Honestly, not trying to be mean. Mostly joking around. Good luck to your team this year.

You are correct in your assessment.

There is nothing good to be learned from playing Duquesne. Only bad things.

1. Our back up QB had been looking great in practice. He looked horrible in the game. That's bad.
2. We didn't set the edge well. That's bad.
3. We lost our center, who was playing only because starting center was injured, to injury. That's bad.

As for all the other stuff - great running game, 250+ passing, defense gives up only 7 points (and that was after a turnover), 3 RB over 100 yards, WRs making good catches, OL run blocking and pass protecting great - doesn't necessarily mean anything good.

Clemson plays Furman on September 10th. What can you really learn about Clemson playing that game? You just hope to come out with no injuries and with no concerns because you looked bad in one or more aspects of the game.

Zeus and Apollo against the pigmy’s of Borneo, some on Tnet will argue for the firing of the coaching staff.

No but will likely argue for a qb change.***

These games are more pointless than a scrimmage

Risk getting your guys hurt to play a team full of dudes than not one of could make your 3 deep. I have no idea how or why a team like that ends up on a p5 schedule.

Yesterday. I watched half of the game. Agreed that your backs looked good.

I wouldn't say your OL has made it though, some cracks there.

I do hope y'all beat LSU because F the SEC.

Just watched the highlights. Solid running game for FSU. Defense was fine. Really easy, low sweat game.
Obviously, next week is the first challenge, as the Seminoles are on the road against LSU. If FSU can beat the Bengals, then you've got something. On the other hand, I watched a good deal of UNC vs FAMU. The Tarhole offense looks good. But defense gave up 24 points and a bunch of yards to an FCS team minus 20 players. Mack has to be somewhat concerned about his D. Next week, UNC is at App. State. Not an easy game by any means. Could go either way.

I’d say minor opponent true. However, in recent years you’ve struggled some with those too. You did what you were supposed to and it’s good to build off of. I hope we win all our knockoff games in similar fashion.

take away from me is you guys dominated as you should have

I honestly didn't know Duquesne had a football team. Live and learn ,I guess.

As a fervent watcher of CFB I am guilty of the same. Totally unaware they had a FB team. See their BB team in the dance often. Looked them up last night. Been around since 1891. Won 36 Orange Bowl against MSU. Live and learn indeed!
