Recruiting...... question..
Jan 18, 2013, 3:40 PM
|
|
I wasnt very high on our recrutiing efforts a couple weeks back but I am happy to see the coaches turning it up nearing signing day. Thats very nice to see.
Serious question.... Are they really gonna turn this thing around and come through with a very solid class or fall slightly short of where most would like to see us?
I think they might have a chance to pull out a decent one if things continue. I feel far better than i did two weeks ago.

To be honest I like the class right now

What we needed this year was DE, CB, and OL talent OL because you should take a few every year. DE because we need a talent increase, same for CB. We have numbers at DE and CB already and a few of those players are very good. We're going for home run hits now with Adams, Lawson, Alexander. We are also looking to take more WRs now for depth and future stars.
But I will say that I think we pull Adams, Crowder, Barker, and one or two of those wrs.

Don't take the TD as a personal attack. I just feel that is a an uneducated post. For starters, why would you be down on our recruiting class? Yeah, we lost a couple of recruits but this recruiting class is still ranked in the top 15 with only 13 commitments. We are going to take 20-24 recruits in this class. There is still a lot of meat on that bone!
Recruiting rankings are based on your top 20 rated recruits...thus like for Texam A&M (34 commits)and Michigan and others those extras don't count, but does mean that you probably have a few more 4 stars based on the law of averages. Clemson's class is ranked 13 by ESPN with only 13 commitments. Now if we get a couple more 4 stars and perhaps a 5 star out of the remaining 10 spots and we will again have another top 10 class.
How could you or anyone else ever call that "decent" or that you aren't "very high on our recruiting efforts"?

but i happen to think u r wrong. couple weeks ago it seemed like we were losing several players and no we werent top 15 then that im aware of.
either way, i didnt see the energy the coaching staff has demonstrated lately. and that concerned me. and i wasnt the only person on here and elsewhere with concerns. you may not share my opinion but that doesnt make me wrong.

The perceived lack of energy prior to a couple of
Jan 18, 2013, 4:21 PM

weeks ago was probably because of the dead period. Coaches weren't allowed to contact any recruits. And I am not trying to be argumentative here but we have been in the top 15 recruiting class for a while. We lost one commit recently in Jenkins and Robinson is counted as a commit we lost but he was wishy washy the whole time. With that being said we lost 2 commits, a 3 star and a 4 star and added a 4 star (Ebenezer Ogundeko). With us having lest than 20 recruits you would have to say we are still behind where we were thus if we are ranked 13 now then we were certainly ranked at least as high as 13 before.

The loss of 2 commits coming out of the dead period was

a dissapointment. But also coming out of the dead period it takes a few days to get the momentum going again. Plus coaches all around the country like to spend the holidays with their families like the rest of us. Perhaps its just a case of what have you done for me lately, but I feel we have some of the hardest working recruiters in the business with a good product to sell. We will get our share of top recruits. But like every program we will lose our share of top prospects too, even the jaugernaut Alabama doesn't get them all either. After all they and Florida have recruited Mt Adams and Nkimdeche every bit as Clemson has.

Don't like to even bring up RN, but feel that his actions hurt us more than was realized at the time. Add to that his mom's utterly uninformed comments about CU---about which she knew NOTHING. No disrespect intended, but this illustrates the fact that people should put their minds in gear before putting their mouth in motion. I do think that we've rebounded from that.

and it didnt seem to me the coaches were hungry in rebounding. but they have shown more tenacity lately. maybe they felt that it would be easier to push toward the end then to try and maintain a commit. who knows.

In all fairness , when RN dropped out, his buddy was
Jan 18, 2013, 4:45 PM

most likely told he had no offer without RN behind the scenes.
Daniels, Clemson stopped pursuing him as he's either head to a smaller college or prep school because of performance in the classroom.
Robinson wanted Florida and Jenkins got a last minute offer from the school his Dad went to.
We now find out that the QB and 1 of the WR's coming in this weekend, the staff were on all along. They just needed room for them. With 1 QB transferring and 2 WR's going elsewhere, Woulard(QB) and Priester(WR) are on the campus now, probably to commit this weekend.
The other WR on campus(Clark) could likely commit this weekend. If he doesn't want to commit, there's another guy in the wings(NCS recruit WR/CB) , that is willing to jump on board.
Adams will sign, so will Crowder and Baker, C Lawson is better than 50/50 along with Alexander, so while not trying to be a SA, it is now looking more and more like the staff has been on the ball all along.

Obviously you don't understand what the folks that run TNet are trying to do. Did you happen to vote for Obama and all of his "free stuff"? Sorry for that "snide" remark but we need to support the TNet staff by being contributors.

You see I don't have much expendable income because my taxes just went up thanks to Obama. I can't afford any pay site, as a matter of fact.
So thanks Tnet for allowing me to still participate!!

Dabo has been the HC for 4 complete years. Has he failed us in the recruiting area during that time? Nope, and it won't happen this time either. We are on a roll because we have something to offer at Clemson!

his first recruiting class was a disappointment to me. It lacked numbers. I was very surprised. I had always thought he was a superb recruiter. I guess it was natural that some recruits might have been skeptical of a new head coach.
BUT his subsequent recruiting classes have been very good. No complaints there.

Boyd was seen as risky - damaged goods.

He played his senior year of high school with a torn ACL and had knee surgery after the season ended --- in January.
Granted that he was highly recruited. But the knee injury problably kept some higher profile schools from offering him. And YES, I do know that Ohio State was willing to take a chance on him too.
AND by the way, I didn't say anything about the lack of talent in that first recruiting class. I said the quantity was low. AND IT WAS!!!!!
PLEASE DO NOT CHALLENGE MY POSTING KNOWLEDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Memory loss? Every team in the country was recruiting him including Oregon and Ohio State and Florida He was a huge get. Also Bryce McNeal was an top 10 receiver in that class. Also Tyler Shatley and Spencer Shuey. Small class size but good evaluation of talent!

not know them, and act like you do is incredible. We were very lucky to get Tajh. Very lucky. And, that class of 12 was a top notch class. I doubt there has ever been a 12 recruit class that had as many key people in it. If JK hadn't off been hurt, he would have been another key player this year too.

He was offered the interim HC job in mid season and his plate was pretty full with game preparation, staff evaluation, recruiting, and trying to hold on to the commitments they had. Remember he was the interim HC and some recruits decided to make other commitments rather than wait to see who the next HC was going to be. He still ended up with a good class and has been great since then.

That makes sense. I still thought Clemson and Dabo

could have attracted more recruits that year. I thought/hoped that lots of those late signees (like we are seeing this year) could have been pursuaded to come to Clemson --- base on CLEMSON's reputation and Dabo's recruiting skills. But maybe, like you say, he was behind the curve and too many recruits didn't want to wait to see who Clemson's new HC would be.
AND my only point was that his first class was not as good as I had hoped --- especially from a numbers standpoint. But clearly he made up for it the next few years. AND maybe that was his plan --- start slow and build a program.

While I, as are alot of Tiger fans disappointed in the decommits, I am patiently optimistic about THIS CLASS as is, right now!
NOW comes the hard part...the waiting. But while we (as fans) armchair and analyze this dead horse to further death, I propose this:
1. Dabo and crew have been busting hump behind the scenes to solidify (and strenthen) this class
2. We have something special brewing at Clemson and these kids are paying attention
3. When all is said and done, this class WILL BE SOLID
4. Lastly, I truly believe that there are at least TWO high profile "silents" (Under the radar) that will flip to us or will end up donning the Tiger paw hat on NSD!!
We are fine!!!!
