good grief.....is he hanging out with Ricky Williams??

Jun 15, 2018, 1:26 AM

if he winds up getting suspended for substance abuse again, the millions he'll have sacrificed because of a little shortage of will power is mind-boggling....not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

I'm hoping things break Martavis' way for a change.

Re: I thunk he is just irresposible.

Jun 15, 2018, 7:40 AM

I think that saying weed is not addictive is misleading. While may not chemically addictive like other drugs it is possible to get addicted to the chemicals that the body may produce when taking the drug.

People get addicted to plenty of activities that require no ingestion, but the addiction comes from the body's own reaction to the activity.

Jun 15, 2018, 7:19 PM [ in reply to You just wanted to get stoned. ]

I disagree that it is not physically addictive. No you do not withdrawal like some pain pills or something but it does become addicting. Maybe it is all in somebody's head but people can get addicted to anything. I'm not saying anything is wrong with weed and if you can control it and live your life smoking that is fine. I'm not saying it is an excuse for him but I would think being addicted to any drug is an excuse as my sister is a drug addict. Weed can be just as bad as any drug if you let it be is all I am saying. If you spend all your money on it and feel like it is the most important thing that is addiction. You can be addicted to working out, watching tv, or playing video games.

You be the judge of whether this fits.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah there are diffirent definitions of addiction.

Jun 15, 2018, 9:15 AM

With that extremely loose definition, we are all serious addicts to many things.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Yeah there are diffirent definitions of addiction.

Jun 15, 2018, 10:40 AM

That “extremely loose” definition is much closer to the true definition of addiction than what you’re implying. You’re conflating physical dependence and addiction when they are, in fact, two different things.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No it is a loose definition. Very loose.

Jun 15, 2018, 11:31 AM

I realize there are mental addictions as well. Most of the time that is just BS. Kind of like when a rich star athlete nails tons of chicks and cheats on his wife. The press gets after him, so now he is a sex addict.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, it’s the literal definition.

Jun 15, 2018, 12:06 PM

You can read how wrong you are here: https://www.asam.org/resources/definition-of-addiction

And regardless of your feelings and/or anecdotes addiction as a result of psychological dependency is a very real thing. You’re so very wrong here.

It’s obvious this young man has a serious addiction and has yet to admit it to himself. Let’s hope he gets help before the league bans him for life. Ego has destroyed millions of lives lets pray he’s not added to the list.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Oh Martavis...

Jun 15, 2018, 2:24 AM

I honestly don't know what his deal is. I'll admit to partaking in my fair share of pot (at one point, you probably could have even labeled me as a "stoner"), but at the same time, I never felt like I just HAD to have it, at the expense of other important things in my life. There's something going on mentally for him to keep doing this (if true). Pot isn't even physically addictive, so he just needs to get his mind right.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Oh Martavis...

Jun 15, 2018, 2:51 AM

I honestly think it’s ego, he just doesn’t think the rules apply to him. Just look at the way he criticizes the coaches in Pittsburgh last year, instead of being thankful they didn’t cut him during his suspension. No team is going to make him a big part of their game plan because they can’t count on him being part of the team.

Re: Oh Martavis...

Jun 15, 2018, 5:36 AM [ in reply to Re: Oh Martavis... ]

Same here, I used the weed for more than 25 years everyday of my life. But after my disabling back injury, I was told that I couldn't be in pain management and smoke weed. I quit bc I had no other choice, and I'm ok with that bc there is no way that pot could take the pain away from my back.

I think some of you are mistaken about MB's problem

Jun 15, 2018, 1:49 PM [ in reply to Re: Oh Martavis... ]

Him using pot is an effect - it's not the cause of his problem. I would guess he has some mental, or emotional issues that are causing him to cope by using marijuana. So it's probably not as simple to just quit smoking for him. He needs to treat the cause.

Having said that, I don't think smoking pot is a big deal at all. I have smoked quite a few times in my 42 years but it's not my cup of tea. Drinking alcohol, taking opiods, or benzos are MUCH more dangerous than taking a puff or two. It's really silly how our society treats marijuana and it's users.

If this is true, and he has indeed failed the drug test, it's his bed, he made it, and now he will be the one that has to sleep in it, hard or soft. The NFL will give him what they believe he deserves, and that will be the end of him playing in the NFL. Oh well, I do hope that all other Tigers entering or in the NFL will see that the NFL is serious about their drug use policies. I do know that if Martavis has indeed failed the drug test, he doesn't deserve and pity from not a single Tiger fan or player bc he knew what was at risk if he took that risk. I'm personally moving on as an X fan of Martavis Bryant if this news is true. We have many other Tigers in the NFL that deserves our backing and to be a fan of. 2. The whole 'weed' factor needs to go. It's absurd and...for the record, I've never smoked, nor intend to. (I don't mind the smell ;) and I do like snacks!)

Selectively deciding via rules and laws on what is good or bad for people is overblown. We have DUI/DWI laws, but people still do it. There are speed limits...yeah, those work well. Don't text and drive...I'll tell you straight up, cell phone drivers are far worse than your neighbor who has weed...or snorts coke in his home. Let Darwinism work! :)

Re: Oh Martavis...

Jun 15, 2018, 1:40 PM

Look I smoked pot like a lot of people smoked pot. I started using when I was 13 and continued through my college years up until I was 23 when I laid it down for a job. I don't care what the dictionary says in the definition of addiction you don't become chemically dependent on weed. Its just not possible. Never meet anyone going through withdraws from pot. Now someone might just want to get high and have come accustomed to being high but as far as needing it to be normal it couldn't be farther from the truth. Do a little 3 or 4 year experiment if you don't believe me. Get hooked on pot and quit then get hooked on Meth, Cocaine, Heroin or Opioids. Then let me know which one you were addicted to. People who get hooked on the latter can actually die if trying to quit without the proper help. Never has been the case with pot. Watch someone try and beat a pain pill addiction and tell me its the same. Its not the same because your body becomes chemically dependent on the chemicals in those drugs where if you are bad enough it can cause you to have seizures. I've traveled down a lot of dark roads through my time with pot being everything to me and if you would have asked me when I was 17 or 18 if I wanted or could stop smoking weed I'd have told you absolutely not. When I was 23 and my now wife was pregnant with my son it was a decision I made to quit and I laid it down and never looked back. Not one time did I ever have any type of withdraw from not smoking pot. I have watched people go through hell trying to beat true addictions and its something I don't wish on even my most hated Gamecock fan. People are going to believe what they want I am just letting you know through my experiences and experiences of my friends that pot is more of a mind frame and just beating the urge to get high. Its not beating a chemical imbalance in your body like with so many of these other drugs. To me its like people calling having an addiction a disease, its a slap in the face to people who have a disease. People that had no choice in the situation. Addiction is a choice. You had to make the first move to be addicted and there are many people out here today with lethal and debilitating diseases that wish they had a choice.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Oh Martavis...

Jun 16, 2018, 8:01 AM

I agreed completly and have been through the same situation. I was addicted to weed tho but not chemically and I did stop as you did without getting sick. Nobody is saying it is an excuse for him but he is obviously addicted if he will not stop to keep his job. Yes it is a choice but it is hard to overcome addiction for some people even when it doesn't send them through withdrawals.
