Nice win today on the road over the Wolfpack.
Jan 8, 2022, 4:57 PM

It’s always nice to get a road ACC win, but we had not beaten NC State at their place in 7 years.
I was pleased that we found a way to win differently today. Excellent game by PJ Hall.
Dawes played well too.
For those who like to complain about us not holding leads, we did an excellent job keeping our lead today.
Really proud of this team! We have won 5 of our last 6 games. We are now 2-2 in the conference with some winnable games coming up.

shot advantage over them, AND we shot over 50% in the 2nd half. If that is true, how in the world was the game only a five point game? Some stat has got to be wrong.

For the game, we shot 28 of 57 and they shot 19 of 60.

That comes out to 49.1% for us, and 31.7% for them.
They made up for this by making 9 threes to our 3, and 18 free throws to our 11.
Rebounds and turnovers were essentially a wash.

And the team stepped up to cover Honor’s “off night” (2-10). Great win. I was worried at one point about the discrepancy in free throws (State 20+ version CU’s 6).

Dawes had maybe his best game overall this season in that one though the stats may not show it. He seems to be off to a more sluggish start this year so great to see him step it up like he did and fill in for Honor. If both of those guys can get rolling together we become a most difficult out.
Some shades of Stitt, RIP, with that #2 action near the basket yesterday on Dawes' part. Hope he can build on that performance.
Go Tigers!

We were making 2 point shots instead of 3s. Only made 3/10 - 3 pointers. Averaging making 9 - 3 pointers per game. Also didn’t get many chances from the foul line. Nancy St attempted 10 more free throws than we did and at least 4 or maybe 6 of our 13 free throws came in the final 30 seconds. They also hit a 3 pointer with like 1.9 seconds left so it wasn’t as close as it sounds.

Silly turnovers kept it close. We were ready to blow it open on many occasions in the second half and gave the ball right back to the Pack.

^^ you never give uP, on basketball, do you Judge Keller! ??

Wish you’d been here in late 50’s thru ‘65 when our average teams scrapped & crawled to win in the ole (Duke-like Cameron) Fike arena and we still had the time of our lives yelling & screaming and thinking we could beat Duke & UNC and didn’t know any difference..
and the tiny place was packed to the top of the bleachers, hot, noisy and we went crazy on each shot made & defensive block and we fans were located just feet from Coach K or Smith and let them & their A-A players know they were in for a tough game.
Even Coach Howard was in attendance and he entered as if he was the King of Persia and we acknowledged him as such..
saying in essence, we are a football school but we’ll enjoy this round ball too. ??
Get over it!

Dawes was great and PJ had at least 4 dunks. He was getting great position and some good passing getting him the ball headed to the hoop. Honor was off today - shot 3-10 and 0-3 from behind the line. If he could have hit the broad side of a barn it would have been a rout. Made their free throws at the end. Only made 3/10 three pointers so it wasn’t a typical offensive performance. Nice win and showed we don’t have to live and die with the 3 pointers.

Yeah, at one time honor was 0-9. He finished 2-10 and 0-3.
Imho, Chase Hunter was the hero. Who knows what might have happened but Hall went cold late but Chase picked them up going 3-3 . He hit some shots that I'm sure Brad said noooo but they went in. One thing that hurt us was Collins getting the quick whistle and then later Tyson got into trouble. State fouled a lot down the stretch to make the box look even but it wasn't.
Thank goodness hellems and smith? From State combined for 2-16 shooting. Smith being their better 3pt shooter was 0-7. A win is a win, especially on the road but State isn't a good team.
Our team is close. But at times we just don't seem to play disciplined... And it's different players. Example, we were up by 8 in first half, 3 tines we should have brought the ball down and played deliberate, set our offense and work it down low. Instead, we rushed shots quick all 3 times. I certainly don't pretend to know a lot of bball, but from a couch fan, the strategy is a head scratcher most times.

I was watching our new qb. He looks great. Since this is a basketball board I’ll involve basketball analogies.
1. He’s very accurate. Unlike any great shooter that Brownell coaches for more than a semester. 2. He’s tall and athletic. Unlike that tiny guard Brownell keeps playing even though he isn’t an ACC caliber guard and gets abused by bigger guards. #4, not sure if his name. 3. He’s a winner. Unlike Brownell.
Very excited about the future. Of our football program. And hopeful Neff does the right thing.

With the ACC being what it is

21 wins gets us in. Which means we need to go 11-4 from here on out and hope they consider NC State on the road “a signature win”. So yea, we’re out of the tournament. We aren’t going to be even in the next four out the next time rankings come out. Meaning we would need to jump 8 teams and have every conference tournament winner be a team projected to be “in” right now. Good luck with that, especially with our SOS heading down game by game.

It’s adorable that he hit some free throws
Jan 9, 2022, 12:29 AM

But he’s way too little and not athletic enough to guard larger guards. Rutgers abused him last year, and players are constantly just shooting over him, warm up threes like he isn’t even there. He looks like he belongs in a mid major league, certainly not the ACC.
I guess if he’s so great, which player or players are the reason we aren’t good enough to make the tournament?

They are a good value for what we pay them.
But it’s ridiculous for our fans to expect top recruiting classes and easy NCAA berths when we pay our assistants below the national average. That’s some Coot logic.

Actually Rick Barnes was twice the basketball coach that Purnell was, but you know what ... it doesn’t matter. Both did not stay at Clemson long enough to turn things around.
Discussions about Rick Barnes and Oliver Purnell are worthless when critiquing the history of the Clemson basketball program.
They both left the job unfinished.
They couldn’t get Clemson over the hump and that’s just a plain fact. They left for what they considered better opportunities.

He is the leading candidate for most improved player, and is an all-ACC level player.
His low post game and his outside shooting are outstanding. I’ve been pleased with his rebounding too.
Our staff deserves a lot of credit for his development, but I won’t hold my breath that “fans” like Weslichick are capable of acknowledging it.
I’d like to see PJ work on a few things, including the quality of his screens as well as more patience when he shoots. He rushes shots sometimes.
