I think that all Clemson, or FSU for that matter, declares

today is that there is nothing to declare. Also, maybe some mumbo jumbo about still examining the GOR with a higher power microscope, trying to get ESPN to pony up some more dough. They can't. They already gave money they don't even have to Pat McAfee.

With its dual revenue stream — fees from cable subscribers and advertising — the sports juggernaut continues to earn billions of dollars for Disney. In the first six months of the 2023 fiscal year, Disney’s cable networks division, which is anchored by ESPN and its spinoff channels, generated $14 billion in revenue and $3 billion in profit.

The problem: Wall Street is fixated on growth. Revenue for those six months was down 6% from a year earlier, as profit plunged 29%.

They have money (see above), but profits are shrinking so they are much more conservative in terms of how they spend it.

Wonder when ESPN is going to go to a pay per view platform

Aug 15, 2023, 8:49 AM

to see certain games. They already have been toying with it with ESPN+. They just don't have the cojones to put college football on it as a full time, only way to watch, kind of thing. Thats how they bleed the viewers for every cent they can spare. Its coming for sure. If they're doling out all this promised money they gotta have a way to pay it. And the extra will come from the viewers.

The only thing I can think of that ESPN has going for it

Aug 15, 2023, 8:52 AM

over FOX is that ESPN already has a family of networks to host content. FOX does not. ESPN has multiple options of where to put their content.

FOX has FS1... but I think this is where FOX would like to go (multiple networks for sports)

Fox is working with CBS and NBC to show BIG10 games.

That would be 4 channels showing BIG10 games all day long.

will CBS and NBC show games in various windows...or are they

On that family of networks how many legit good games are on them?

that great tv exposure on the CW. It's a gold mine.

That should be good enough for 100 more dollars per school at least.

The ACC has 12 months or less to radically increase

the share of money that us and FSU would get (not happening w/o Notre Dame, so not happening). In the mean time, expansion for this year is done, and the wrangling between the networks (not conferences) continues as to who will add the two biggest prizes left.

Watch carefully the sale of ESPN by Disney. Right now the 4 letter network is hamstrung by financial uncertainty and cannot act as a real competition to FOX/CBS.

By this time next year, either the ACC has pulled off a financial miracle, or the league drastically changes with us, FSU and likely 5-6 others bolting for greener pastures, and the ACC survives as a Big East that plays mediocre football.

Good take and makes the most sense to me.
