I'm not a big Kirby fan, but this doesn't compare to the Woody Hayes incident. Very different circumstances, and I believe different intent and level of egregiousness. I agree Kirby should own it, explain and apologize, and move on.

This blew up on TNET last night with demands for UGA to "do something." You're right....not much here. Kirby will apologize publicly and probably call Jeff Lebby and apologize to him and the player.

Just answer this question- what would the media be doing right now if this exact situation was Dabo? You and I know it would be a media storm.

You are correct and it is not because of a “persecution complex “. Kirby gets away with this because it is just typical behavior for him. Doesn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. The media would explode if Dabo did this because it would be completely out of character and totally shocking for him to behave this way. Kind of reminds me of some hotheads I worked with over the years. When they lost their cool, everyone just explained it away as “that’s just how he is”, while it would have been shocking for those of us who normally treated people with respect to behave that way. I never really could accept that excuse for poor behavior. I guess once a jerk, always a jerk and people accept them because they have always been that way. Maybe that’s it, they identify as a jerk and we have to accept them. Sounds familiar.

Sorry. But it's starting to appear the Kirby's lack of self control just might the reason that his players lack tbat same quality. He aggressively shoved tbat QB. It was no mistake. He gets away with it as well as falling under the NCAa lack of institional control clause. But hey, maybe UGA is waiting for another tragedy that cost someone or multiple people their lives before it acts? I mean that's what I expect. Georgia fans are loud and out of control just like him so I get why you're defending him. Birds of a feather!! Go away please!!

No the guy should be suspended for putting his hands on the other team’s QB. That is how you make up for that. The dude just ran out of bounds and is in the uniform of the other team. That was BS he didn’t know who he was… He intentionally shoved the opponents QB out of bounds, half his team is in jail, and nobody graduates.
And you think he should apologize and move on??? No. Suspend him.

objectivity.
If Kirby grabs the opposing player and starts punching him, then yes, that's unacceptable. If Kirby is charging down the sideline, and shoves someone, no matter who it is, who collides with him and suddenly blocks his path, it's very, very different.

That is a petty weak explanation. He needs better awareness of his surroundings at a minimum. I think the NCAA/SEC should make him stay of the sideline for the next game as punishment. He can be up in the box.

official or coach, and suddenly collided with someone, who happened to be an opposing player, and without thinking, reflexively reacted and shoved that person. I'm not buying anything else. That's what he did and what he is responsible and should be accountable for.

The “reflexive reaction” is the telling part of the whole episode.

Of course. He reflexively shoved somebody he collided with.

It is what it is. If it's wrong, it's wrong. Personally I don't think it was that big of a deal, and is very, very different from the Woody Hayes incident. Again, I'm not a Kirby fan at all; I think he should own what he did head-on, and he hasn't. Instead he's dancing around it - that's kind of what Kirby does, and I'm not defending that at all.

It's definitely nowhere near the level of Woody Hayes

I've also seen two clips of this incident and the shove looks much, much more aggressive in one of them. I saw that one first and thought it might warrant some type of minor punishment and then I saw the other clip and it looked mostly like a nothing burger. I'm not sure which one is the real clip because they both look very similar in terms of speed until the shove.

Had he shoved a player on his team that way or an assistant coach that way.
Here is the thing, had he “inadvertently” shoved an official that way he would have been ejected immediately. Probably the only thing the saved him was the player stayed on his feet. Regardless he should have at least been an unsportsmanlike penalty and probably more than that.

Solution - Coach pushes opposing team’s player. Opposing team’s player gets to push Coach.

If your “reflexive reaction” to bumping into someone “accidentally” is to hands extended shove them away then you have an anger problem.
Seriously, calm the $&@! down. It ain’t helping anybody.
