Next years 12 team playoff

The championship games this weekend will have a lot to do with who makes the playoff. As did the regular season. Enjoy this as it won’t be the same next year with the expanded playoff. The voters will matter more than the results from now on and I don’t think it’ll be a positive for the sport.

Don’t the P5 (will be P4 next year with the PAC 12 gone) champions get a first round bye in the 12 team playoff? Sounds like winning these games will matter.

I thought it was the 4 highest ranked P5 conference champs. With the PAC -12 disbanding doesn’t that mean the conference champs from the ACC, SEC, Big 10, and BIG 12 get the 4 byes?

The top ranked 6 conf champs get in. That guaranteed one non-P-5.
The top four of that list of 6 get byes.
The expectation is they will change it from 6 champs to 5 champs, which still guarantees at least one non P5.

The 4 highest ranked conference champs get byes. So yes, these games are still huge from that perspective.

Hate it. Games like this won’t matter. Both will get in regardless. FSU can lose and still get in with next years format. It’s just killing the excitement of the regular season which used to feel like a playoff every week.

It will absolutely matter. The winner of this game

Would get a bye week. That is huge! The loser would then have a possibility of hosting a home playoff game. And let's not forget the exposure for a nationally televised game. There is $$$ involved so these games will always matter.

The top 4 don’t get to host because they get byes.
Seeds 5-8 get to decide where to play their first round game. I’d imagine they would choose their home stadium nearly 100% of the time.

If true playoffs are so bad then how come every sport at every level other the CFB division 1 have them. With a 12 team playoff it takes the power away from the voters and you win in the field as it should be! The games still mean as much and conference championships mean as much or more.

All conference champions would still mean a lot
Alabama vs Georgia would still be for a top 4 bye. Alabama would fall out of the top 8 with a loss and have it travel in round one.
Iowa, Louisville and OK State would still be fighting for a spot in the playoff.

The 12 team playoff will keep a lot of teams and fan bases engaged late into the season. With 3-4 games left in the season you could have 20 plus teams with a chance to make playoffs.

Will enjoy next year shamelessly. We're going to more intriguing matchups
Also, winning still matters so not sure why folks are hating on it. So losing 1 or 2 games is no longer going to disqualify you from potentially winning a Natty...and I'm supposed to be mad?
Nah - I'm cool. If Clemson went 9-3 and made the playoffs...and won the Natty, I'm sure not a dadgum soul here is gonna complain that "well, we were 9-3 so it doesn't count" 🙄🙄🙄

But I’d prefer 8 team playoff to keep it special/exclusive. Now that pac12 is gone they could go down to 5 conf champ with only 3 at large. seems to me typically 3 top teams that appear to separate every year; that leaves room to keep underdogs alive for the upset with wiggle room for the best to selected at large

I know everyone wants to hate on the state of college football because of all of the changes with nil, portal, etc. I think the game has never been more exciting. There will be powerhouses, there will still be cinderellas, there will be rivalries.
Change is always hard for some people, but I think the college game is only going to become more popular with more story lines and a better on field product. Flame away if you feel so inclined.
