XT staying or going ?
Jan 5, 2022, 6:14 AM

Has anyone heard if XT is staying or going ? He tweeted something a day or so ago along the lines of "look at my tape... I had a good year even though I didn't get the stats I wanted".
Would be great to have him another year, but I am biased. If he can be a high draft pick, I'm sure he will go, but I think one more year could really help him.

He'll get a late round grade at best.
His best bet would be to come back, and learn some LB skills. Show some ability to drop in coverage, and work the edge from a standing start
IMO

He does need to stay and refocus.

Way to concerned about video games. Needs a past player mentor to help him understand he has one shot at life changing money. And can play all the video games he wants in his old age of 35 after he gets the money. Needs one year of complete focus and buy in.

He's certainly shown flashes but has not been consistent enough to get drafted very high if at all. Getting sick hurt him for sure. He should come back and show some versatility but if I had to guess, I think he goes.

I am guessing he projects as a late 3rd round/4th round guy. He'd be well served to comeback and really commit to improving his game. With Bresee and KJ back, he'll has some opportunities to show out.

Who’s body and style does he match? Thinking of former tigers DE. Vic Beasley, Bryant, Ferrell, Goodman, or the other recent guy that now plays for Jets? Just some recent DE draft picks

prototypical DE in the NFL. Thinking a scheme that lets him play LB. I think he had a great year this year coming back from Covid but I think his ceiling for NFL draft is a lot lower than it was projected. He's really a tweener in my opinion so without gaudy stats(which are kind of hard to do on our team these days) then he's not going to be a high pick. He would probably be a mid-lower round pick just to the fact of teams not being certain how to use him. He's a tremendous athlete so he will get an opportunity and could be a tremendous pro in the right scheme and someone that knows how to utilize him but his NFL $ will have to be earned IMO not a guy who's high enough to be just given it upfront.

I always thought he was more a large linebacker

He'll get swallowed up by NFL Offensive Lineman at least if he plays Defensive End in a 4-3. Maybe a 3-4 linebacker in NFL.

He sorta reminds one of former coot Melvin Engram, 6'2, 265lbs. Almost a replica of XT. The difference is Engram is a frigging workout freak, filmrat and a motor that never stops. He is actually one of the only Coots that I like watching play, Bryan Edwards is another.

I think he still has potential to be a great pass rusher

But he's too one-dimensional at this point to be drafted highly.
Then you look at his production. Again, I thought he was good when on the field, but he had 21 total tackles, 12 solo tackles, and 3.5 sacks. In 4 years, he has 87 total tackles, 44 solo tackles, and 12.5 sacks.
Some of that is injury and illness, but that's all part of the equation. The players who are drafted highly put up those kinds of stats in one season.
I honestly think XT either gets drafted in the 6th or 7th round or, more likely, goes completely undrafted if he enters the draft.
He needs either a huge season or to develop some OLB skills to be drafted on Day 1 or 2.

Eason would be a major asset to XT, in fact to all Defensive Players. Like some have already said, XT could have a Breakout year like Tompson did in 2020. Some players need the extra year plus it will give him more time to get healthy (appears to already be) before he is fed to those MASSIVE OL in the NFL

Great call. Eason was a D end in college and transitioned to DT in the NFL. Will be good for XT to learn some stuff from him.

I was thinking KJ came back and assuming XT would be gone, without having to split snaps. If KJ was a full time starter I think he would put up great numbers, he has the perfect size and length to be effective at the next level. I really wouldn't care either way, but I think XT leaves and just tries to show out at the combine to help boost his stock.

Just as good as a freshman as he is now. Straight ahead fast with no lateral movement skills. How many times have we seen him fly by the QB or the RB in the past 3 years, showing tremendous speed and quickness, but no lateral movement to make the tackle. Seems to be a lot of natural talent there that some coach should be able to get out of him. Don't know? Maybe he is not coachable? There just seems to be an abundance of talent there in size, speed, quickness that has not been harnessed. Would another year at Clemson do the trick? Can Lemanski Hall get the most out of that obvious talent. Don't know the answer to that one.

He should stay but who knows

In this day and age. He has not shown the jump he had as a freshman. XT literally was the quickest off the snap, I've ever seen. He hasn't gotten back to that. My opinion, he needs another year to stay healthy and improve. I think with his lower body he might be better suited to add a little upper body bulk and try to mold himself into an Aaron Donald, Grady Jarrett body type. He has the athleticism and lateral ability to go this route. I don't think he transitions well to a OLB on the next level especially a 265ish. I don't see him being a #1 pass rush DE in the NFL. Strong side end, situationally move inside in a 4-3 is the role I see for him at the next level. But he needs another year to show he can stay healthy, remain mentally engaged and that he can keep the motor going on more than 50% of his snaps. He has to quit disappearing at times. With less than ideal tangibles (6'1 and short armed), his heart needs to be unquestionable.
