OL on the Shipley Blowup

Go back and watch it. It’s a highlight under our game on ESPN.
Goaline and they are standing straight up with no leverage looking like they are playing patty cake.
I don’t know what Shipley was raising cane about but I hope it was the OL. There’s no hiding the fact that they are just bad.
And no, Shipley should NOT blow up at a coach.

It sounded like he said, "What are you yelling at me for," or something to that effect.

Exactly. I think it was "I was met almost immediately, why are you getting on me what can I do about that"! {paraphrased, of course}.

If he WAS going to blow up at a coach, he picked the wrong

one. Spiller, THE RUNNING BACKS COACH, can empathize, he didn't get a whole lot of blocking when he played, either. But, his superhuman ability overcame a lot of it. Ship should have been in Thomas Austin's grille, if he felt that froggy.

At the beginning of the season, Shipley explained how Spiller and Dabo had talked with him about controlling his emotions on the sidelines. He said he had been working on himself. Yes, he gets emotional, but he has a hunger and a want to win that a lot of the players on this team do not have. Spiller may have been trying to coach him up or getting on to him about not getting in the end zone, but I wish this #### O line had half the drive and will that Ship does. They are average at best and it may very well hurt us next week.

How do you know that a lot of our other players dont have a hunger and a want to?!?

Assuming that they don’t have that, simply because they aren’t loud or acting like hotheads, is unfair.
Maybe they do have it, but have the wisdom to know that their desire and determination doesn’t have to be worn on their sleeve.

Over the past two seasons, Shipley has busted his ### for the team. He’s got heart and yeah, he needs to control his emotions better. But sorry, I like to see players get pissed when they’re putting it all on the line for their team and the rest of the team isn’t giving 100% to out points on the board. No, he shouldn’t be having an attitude with Spiller on the sideline and he will get reprimanded for it. Again, this Oline is average at best, they get pushed around too often. We were told they would be better this season. Why does Clemson always have this Oline problem? And it’s laughable that you of all people are on here defending other football players because you seem to have some type of animosity towards Shipley.

Cade to get in the next play, or how well they generally blocked for Mafah. It’s almost like they don’t want to play hard for Ship, which is odd since he told us himself what a great leader he is.

That Phil just had double the YPC of Ship last night based on talent alone, and the line blocked identically for them.

Cade barely got in....
I loved the call though. Especially after we have had fumbleitis on the one yard line the last two weeks.

Thomas made the wrong cut on his stuff. He could have walked into the end zone if he went left. It could have been a missed push/pull assignment - put a quality back has to learn to take what’s given.

he was literally pointing to himself and saying give it to me, then gave Spiller an earful on the sideline. He was way out of line, It showed a complete lack of trust in the staff, and in Klubnik. I hope he is running bleachers today.

the one he needs to be lobbying - he doesn’t call the plays. And how about being excited about your teams score vs complaining about your touches if that is what actually occurred(which I’m not sure that is what happened)

In real time - I thought he was likely complaining that Spiller said "get up field, stop dancing". That's a guess, but what I thought in the moment.

Ship's run during the game and even after watching the video, I felt the hole opened to Ship's right, one gap over.
Now, whether that was by design or Ship just should have been a little more patient, I don't know.

That's exactly what I saw. Shipley had his head down and couldn't see the small crease open up to his right.... instead, he ran up his O-lineman's butt and thought he could ride him over the goal. He does that a lot.
If he had his eyes up, he would have gotten his TD.

I’m absolute convinced less than 1% of college football fans know how to grade O-line. They are much better than last year. And I didn’t rewatch the play he threw the tantrum over, but Shipley has been dreadful in goal line situations this season.

I'll admit I didn't see it since we were at the game last night, but honestly, the whole exchange should have been off camera. We didn't need to see that any more than we needed to see our cornerback throwing up after his TD against UNC last year.
