If I were young and single moving to Columbia I’d want to be in West Cola just over the river from downtown, something like https://brooklandsc.com/
Or over in town near Shandon.
If you want to have interstate access, Lexington near I20/378 side of town is great, but you’d be hard pressed to find rentals (I think?) and people live in Lexington for the public schools.

Lexington county is not bad as long as it's not Pelion, Gaston, Swansea, Red Bank, or the nudist camp that ryanadidas goes to.

I felt the same way.
But Columbia is way, way worse. I lived (if you want to call it that) in Cola for almost 4 years in the early 2000's...and I'd have to be destitute to ever take a job that I had to live there again. Actually, I had an apt down here still the entire time I worked there. The only weekends I ever spent in Columbia was when I was working. For a while I didn;t even have a place to stay and just drove back and forth.
Columbia has all the bad parts of a big city, with none of the good stuff. But the lifers there sure think they have something. Which is good I guess, because if they don't pretend like it's a big deal, nobody will.
At my last house there was an older dude about 4-5 houses down I met that I knew every time I talked to him he'd talk about living in Shandon. Shandon this, Shandon that. He asked me if I knew anything about Shandon once when I told him i had lived up there, I replied "yep. I know exactly where it is." and didn't say anything else. He just kind of looked at me strange like I was going to say how great it was or somethin', but I think he got the point because he never mentioned Shandon to me again.

It seems that a cardiac rhythm device specialist would really do quite well in the lush cocaine jungles of Colombia.

What if the manufacturer came up with a sexy and appealing name for this cardiac rhythm device. Something like, oh just off the top of my head, "pacemaker"?

So yea we're not reinventing the wheel on the hardware. I got it. But how about revolutionizing how we exploit the data.
I present to you "OnlyFans for heart monitoring."
OnlyInfarctions.
And if you get lucky you'll see someone die on the livestream.

has beautiful old homes (for which I have a personal affinity) with the easiest interstate access in the city. I-20, I-26, I-77 all nearby as are the major Columbia hospitals. Its also very walkable.
I also love the Shandon neighborhood. it is also comprised of beautiful homes and is walkable. Earlwood and Cottontown are also good options.
But, that is me. I hate urban, suburban, ex-urban sprawl with a passion.
Now, if its white-flight he's after, and loves him some crazy commutes, go for Lexington.

to the interstate. IF you choose Lexington, there's a square from the ### on Hwy 6 to 378 to I-20, over to the river, and back up to the ###. That's the best area. Wouldn't live outside that area, if you choose Lexington.

Forest Acres, Shandon, Wildewood, Woodcreek Farms, Forest Hills, Lake Katherine, King's Grant, Gregg Park, The Hamptons, about it.
Grew up in The Hamptons, had friends who lived in Lake Katherine, Forest Acres, Wildewood, Forest Hills, and King's Grant.
There's a level down that's "ok", but really, just follow the money, like everywhere else.
