on Veterans Day. Military service affects not just those who serve, but those who wait for them at home. And, too many times, those who served either came home in a flag draped casket, or never came home at all. They paid the highest price possible in service of their country.

And yet, other times, those who DID come home alive paid a price nearly as dear. They came home with many scars, some visible, and others only known to them, in the form of PTSD or haunting memories of what they endured in combat, amid the atrocities of war.

How sad is it that the country that they returned to, sometimes let them down in the worst ways. Viet Nam veterans especially, were treated shamefully for many years, and are only now being accorded the respect and in some cases, services from the government they fought to protect, that they were always entitled to get.

Veterans, ALL Veterans, Thank You for your service, not just today, but every day. It is because of your sacrifice that this "Experiment in Democracy" as President Reagan and others referred to it, is still ongoing now for almost 250 years. SALUTE!
