So I got my NC CWP retroactively denied yesterday

Picked up my CWP from the sheriff's office Thursday.
Yesterday I got an email, text and phone call from a Cpl. at Hendo County saying I now have 23 hours to relinquish/surrender my CWP at the Sheriff's office. Seems they got some additional mental health information and changed their minds.
Went in this morning (Thankfully I have a flexible schedule, many don't) and when I walked in the person at the front desk recognized me and called me by name. At that point I realized they had printed out a full size picture of me and my ID and it was sitting at the front desk (felt like a criminal at this point).
Officer comes out and we chat. Turns out I paid $70 (I think that was the amount) to get fingerprinted, tattoos photographed, and swore to some statements, and I have nothing to show for it.
The kicker - this is an open carry state. I asked if I could carry on the outside of my waistband and he said as long as I open carry there is no problem, but if I put it inside my waistband I'll get arrested.
Seems this red flag realistically did nothing. Pretty frustrating, they should have sent someone out to collect it, not require me to show up on short notice and take PTO time.

TLDR - Got red flagged, CWP revoked and treated like I was a criminal. I probably can't buy a gun anymore either.

lol, depression and being too honest with my therapist I guess. Nothing that I haven't been dealing with for the past 17 years, and I haven't gone off the rails to this point

is around the fact that I was approved, then retroactively had it revoked. I'm not particularly frustrated beyond the fact that if it was denied now, it never should have been approved in the first place.
I think I thought they looked at records, but not explicitly talked to my providers.
Also frustrated how I was treated, like I had done something wrong, when in fact it wasn't my fault they approved me.

Plus my support of red flag laws is contingent on them being tightly written. Retaining a therapist should not in and of itself be a disqualifying factor. It would only be if a mental health professional actively sought an intervention. I don't think this is the case here. My guess is the background check included mental health services and that alone was why it was revoked. That's not great.

your cwp and/or right to buy guns, or hire a layer to fight it and spend thousands of dollars. Maybe 10's of thousands of dollars by the time it's all said and done. Might not be worth it to you, it's tough to come up with the money and time to fight the man for most people.
I doubt it goes away on it's own though. I'd be pretty pissed.

Murica, you can try reaching out to these guys. They were very active (and effective) against NC's pistol purchase permit regime, especially when County Sheriffs used COVID to slow walk permits.

On one hand, I don’t know you—with all due respect maybe you are and maybe you aren’t a good CWP candidate, I dunno.
OTOH, I absolutely hate how they reached the conclusion you weren’t. That’s not good.

I just had to vent, I'm not really concerned about the CWP. Primarily i took the class just to learn the laws and a refresher on safety, then there was no reason not to apply after taking the class...

anyway, regardless of the requirement to have training and a permit. Law abiding, intelligent people are going to go for some training, maybe even the permit to have reciprocity in other states....The 'others' don't really GAF.

Of course, this only works if you have property in other states where you can get a CWP. But SC allows it. You can apply as a qualified non-resident with SLED if you own property here and NC laws will honor your SC CWP if you ever get caught carrying.
