I'm not as down on the Davis twins as some people

Consider first that they both have 80+ tackles this season, while sharing the defense with each other. You take one or the other off the team and the tackle numbers go way up. Judah Davis probably has 110+ tackles if his twin brother isn't on the team, and that's true the other way around as well. Next, they will essentially have 6 years in the program. A greyshirt year, a redshirt, year, and 4 years of eligibility. They are both big kids right now, and a year in a college weight program probably puts both of them at over 230 going into their redshirt year. I'm going to put my faith in the coaching staff on this one, and not write these 2 guys off before they take the field. Clemson has done a pretty good job with 2* prospects over the years.

The greatest thing about our coaching staff and nutrition staff is that they know how to develop talent. I got into this conversation last night. I like to evaluate talent based on visual work and less about the stars dictate They ain't worth a darn if they don't maturate throughout their career. I agree. Let our staff do what they do!

First and foremost, we have WAY too many LB's on the roster. Secondly, not sure where they wind up IF they develop, Mike, Will, Sam, Jack????? If they still have a lot to mature body-wise, what position are you recruiting them for? thirdly, Jeff can afford to send his boys to Clemson and I don't see them worthy of a scholarship at this time; perhaps they grow into it but why not let them be preferred walk-ons and see how they shake out?
We have 85 scholarships and EVERY one of them should be targeted for guys that can contribute. These offers fall into the Ryan Carter mold......huh???
And by the way, I hope they turn out great, Jeff is a stellar guy but there is just a lot of unknown surrounding them. That doesn't speak Clemson scholarship to me.

You do realize the Vic Beasley came in as a RB right? Where did he end up? How is that working for us? I think Clemson has had a lot of guys like that. We had a TE that currently plays offensive tackle....Our coaches know how to develop talent and they will find a place for them. Even if they switch sides of the ball and work on becoming a blocker of some sort (maybe an H-back, very prominent in the offensive system) or maybe a part of the OL. Maybe slim them down and use them as a safety? So many possibilities. I tell you what though, if in three years, they aren't on the roster anymore or never play, you can say, "wasted scholarship." You have no idea what their plans are. I just trust and seen how the staff matures talent in EVERY player and not just the 3-star and up players.

TigerDrew: you think every player we sign "develops" into a good player? your lack of understanding of the facts don't persuade anyone. The staff misses on a lot of players (as do most staffs). you don't recruit hoping you find a position for them - do you realize how juvenile that is??? Grow up fella.
I truly HOPE they develop but when you give out a Clemson football scholarship, you better feel really really good they will fit your needs as well as have the athletic skills required. I just see no need to offer them anything but a preferred walk-on; that will allow them time to prove themselves without taking a needed scholarship.

coachable, you recruit system & you #### well recruit kids that can help you win on and off the field, in practice, in meeting, in classroom and in life.
if they deserve a clemson scholarship i'll leave that up to the men that live and die by that decision, the men that know what these kids bring on a personal level & not some idiot that knows nothing of what all that means.
questions?

The Davis twins will first hit the field in 2017
Feb 8, 2014, 6:27 PM
[ in reply to I'm not thrilled or bummed about them but the timing is bad ] |

At that point, our depth chart will look much different. The coaching staff thinks the Davis kids can contribute, they also think Ryan Carter can contribute. What exactly have you seen that makes you think Ryan Carter won't contribute to this team?
As to position...what position does Register play? What position does Yeargin play? What position did Beasley play when he came to Clemson? Coaching would be much easier if you had a crystal ball, but if the coach staff thinks they athletic enough, I'm willing to accept their judgement.
