That should be an unsportsmanship penalty with immediate ejection for the coach.

A rule where injured player sits out rest of the possession.

An injured player should have to sit out for an entire quarter before coming back in.

I was there and saw it. The most obvious thing ever. Bama was confused. One of their players ran on the field and then sprinted right back off. Another ran onto the field and decided he shouldn't be there, either, and ran right back to the sideline. That's when the coaches shoved this guy onto the field and told him to fake an injury because they couldn't get the personnel right. Worst case of fakery I've ever seen.

wow. Must be so embarrassing to be an SEC fan.***

Eventually the rule will be the game doesn’t stop for injured players. They either get themselves off the field or they get flagged for being offsides if injured behind the new line of scrimmage or they get trampled by the play. When players and coaches make a mockery of injuries they forfeit protection of injured players. See the old Rollerball movie from the 1970s.

It was bush, but the refs botched the application of the substitution rule

At change of position Bama was supposed to be given the opportunity to match personnel after UTjr ran their 11 players on the field; they were not. Bama did not have the personnel they wanted on the field and weren't given the opportunity to sub so they got creative. That one is on the refs.

You misunderstand the rule. There was no substitution. Both teams ran their punt teams on the field the Alabama wanted to substitute a player or 3.

No it was a change of possession the defense has the right to substitute

The Rules analyst from the network broadcast made that clear to the viewers. The play by play and color commentator weren't sure about it and he clarified.

Alabama should be embarrassed more by that than losing to Vandy.

Instead of having a sideline evaluation or treatment of injuries, require all injured players to go to the locker room for evaluation and treatment. If it takes 5 plays or 2 series, the player can return to the game once they are released to play by the team doctor.

That was on the referees
