I saw the Replay of the Hit on Lattimore

Looked to me like he was already on the way down with a player on top of him. When the other player went very low at a high rate of speed and all his weight aimed at the knees. I don't see how anyones knees could survive that impact. I just don't see that being part of the game. Go at someone and wrap your arms around their legs but don't just throw all your weight at their knees. Knees are not meant to take that kind of impact. Just sickening that a career may be ruined and Latti may need knee replacement surgery sooner rather than later

players way too much credit for "thinking" when all they are actually doing is reacting.
Im sure the Vols player was just trying to get a good runner down. After all, Lattimore is good because he breaks so many tackles.
It's like the pro game now...a defensive player is rushing the quarterback at top speed, but when the qb releases the ball and the defensive guy is just 6 inches away, he is somehow supposed to pull up.

Live, when the outcome of the tackle was unknown, it looks like 100s of other tackles against a runner that is as tough to bring down as Lattimore. You do not tackle a guy as good as Lattimore around the shoulders. He will break your tackle more times than not.
On replay, when you know what happens it is easy to second guess and say well he didn't need to go low becuase clearly (speculation) we was going to go down. Neither of the commentators made a wiff about it being a dirty hit, and these are guys that will rail for 10 minutes about "targeting."

Agree, nothing even remotely cheap or dirty about that play. Just very unfortunate how it turned out. Prayers go out to Lattimore, he's one of the "good guys"

way to rule this out of the game, unless the game is changed completely. I don't believe there was intent at all. It was a defensive back doing what he has been instructed to do against one of the toughest backs to bring down in college football.
I played the game and as an old man hurt in places I didn't know i had at 22 and I had no severe injuries.
Let's face it. It is a very violent sport and great athletes can get hurt. If it were made completely safe I doubt anyone would watch it. Just this week there have been complaints on here about the sideline rule (running out of bounds), the horse collar tackle and the quarterback in the grasp rule.
No, I really doubt anything was intentional. It is just a terrible down side to a violent sport.

energy act. The player who hit Marcus Lattimore was the first to call to the sidelines for help. He was just doing what he had been coached to do--hit a big ball carrier low--knees--feet--whatever stops him.

I'm sorry he's injured, but it was a clean hit.

powers that be will do it for them. Already happening. Latti will be lucky to walk normally again much less return to football. Many times a player bounce off a hit and keep on going. I don't think players are taught to hit as much as they are taught to rap their arms around the offensive player--correct?

Actually, they are taught to do both, and it takes both to bring down most players, especially those like Lattimore. Proper technique involves delivering a blow and wrapping up, and it is drilled into all defensive players on every team.
