I never like to criticize Coaches, however

Brad made two terrible coaching decisions last night that basically cost the Tigers the game against GT. Our guys out rebounded the Jackets all night long, common sense, not even Basketball sense, so with a 3 point lead, why would you not foul GT with less than 5 seconds? Why when you are down by 3 with 4.8 secs left, again with our rebounding edge, would you not have Schiefflin miss that 2nd foul shot intentionally, the percentages would have been much better than Brad's plan. Unbelievably, poor coaching....Brad obviously needs a strategy coach on his bench, sad....

I would rather hall shoot an open 3 rather than miss a ft, get rebound and put back. I dont think i have ever seen that work live.
I do wish we would have fouled at the end if regulation, but brad and many other coaches choose not to. Im assuming they have way more analytics at their disposal than i do.
You are basically contradicting yourself with your post. If the higher percentage play is miss a FT, then wouldn't you want them taking a 3? Rebounding edge does nothing for me as they are already in position to box out, and it takes a perfect bounce for us to rebound. Again, i dont believe i have ever seen this work live.

I disagree, my choice was based solely on the time! I think we had a better chance of the offensive rebound than we do, letting them inbound the ball, foul them, let them go down make the free throws, then we inbound it, get it down to our end of the court, shoot a 3 to tie. Obviously that does not work, at least it didn't in this case!! Besides this would not have come into play if we had fouled them at the end of regulation....

NC State did it to Clemson several years ago...

The shooter actually double pumped and then stepped across the foul line before throwing the ball at the backboard, but the ACC refs didn't call it. The shooter got his own put-back and Clemson lost the game.

Was in the stands when Maryland pulled it off

but their two guys in the second spot on the lane grabbed the two Clemson players in position for the rebound and almost pulled them out of bounds so the shooter could come down the lane and get a layup for the tie and OT. Once again - no calls by the ACC refs.

I know what you are saying, but in this case, with that little time, I think the odds were better on the intentional miss. However, had we fouled GT at the end of regulation, we would not be discussing this and the Tigers would have most likely won the game!

Apparently the coach who you think is a terrific coach has seen it, or he would not have let them come down and make a three pointer"!

Our best offensive rebounder was the one shooting the FT. That reduces our chance of a miss FT-rebound combo drastically. I think making that FT was the better play. We ended up with a decent chance to tie it.

Agree with fouling near end of regulation. And to boot, GT was in a one and one at the time.

MASA02, it was the smart play, especially with the way we had controlled the boards all night long.

Wait, why do you hate to criticize a coach? I am invested in Clemson University. Sure, the returns include a lot of joy and memories on GameDay that span several decades. But, I also expect to see a product relevant to todays market. We have only had one or two teams in my 52-years that meet that expectation. If my financial advisor were losing money; you better believe I’d be yelling in his ear. I use the term coach loosely when talking about BrownL. How can a Net rank 122 team come into a NET rank 27 teams house and beat them? This is the norm under BrownL. Expecting any other result is insanity.
I also cite Ken Hatfield, Tommy West, and Tommy Bowden who were coaches I actively tried to get fired. I tried for years to get Ellis fired but no one cared. People are finally starting to care about basketball so hopefully soon we will get some fire BrownL results.

It’s like you just did a Google search and didn’t even read the articles. First - a team with a three point lead with the shot clock off is a 90%+ favorite to win. So the differential between the two strategies are minute. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t meaningful. A majority of the statistical studies say to foul. And even Sagarin - who leans don’t foul - argues that when the other team has good three pointers and your team has the rebound advantage - foul. How would you describe the circumstances last night. More insincere trolling.
