I like Dabo's optimism, but

Aug 9, 2012, 4:22 AM

I miss Danny's down playing.

My favorite Danny interview was after the 1989 citrus bowl vs Oklahoma where the interviewer ask Danny if he thought his team would be a national title contender in 1990. Ford's response was that we had to improvements as a team overall in the off season and then see what happens.

After the Orange Bowl drubbing I cant imagine any optimism or confidence could keep this team from being focused. Assuming the team has any sense of pride that was a historical embarrassment I'm sure they'd like to make people forget, even if just temporarily.

Danny always downplayed how great his teams were, but

if any reporter ever questioned his teams toughness or heart, he'd always give them a look that said "We'll show you, ya s.o.b."

Owens, you nailed it! Danny always poor mouthed even when we were about to play Furman, then he would systematically dismantle them. The other thing I remember is that he could talk about his players and their flaws, but you had better not! Week in and week out, Danny Ford had his team ready to play!

We played Oklahoma 1-2-89 that was not the 1990 season. We played WVU 12-30-89

That was Danny's last game and I think we would have won the MNC if he had still been here

Danny's pre-game grin from the sideline against . . .

Florida State, during Osceola's entrance, in 1989 was pure beauty. Proceeded to lay a beat down on 'em! :) lol

When I hear "Danny Ford" that is the image that pops in my head! Priceless moment.

Us old guys that had the pleasure of watching Danny Ford teams will always love that guy. We remember how his teams played with "fire in their belly" - or that's how I describe it. I never saw that before DF, and I haven't seen it since DF. Sorry, but that's how I remember those guys. They absolutely terrified teams. You always felt like you had the chance to win every game, down to the last minute.

I guess the landscape has changed, and we have all these great recruits, but I seldom see them hit guys like they did when DF coached 'em. JMO.
