I'm awake and refreshed an hour earlier than usual, giving me time to read the apocalyptic musings of what can be only described as the horde of little Finebaums who invariably spring out of the shrubs every time the Tigers stub their toes.

Judge Keller fired off a final salvo before going to bed, saying the coaching staff is the problem, while intimating that Dabo Swinney may not need to go, but, it's hard to see how he can stay.

Then the pitchfork-and-torch NIL/portal crowd is on its soapbox, reminding us all how right they are, and how wrong the program has gone.

It's all such a tired take, as if firing Swinney and adopting the Norvell method of program building are the answers.

Yes, Clemson got throttled last night. There's no disputing it. They performed like a half-inflated bicycle tire in every phase of the game.

But it's one game. It's not all the games. An ACC title is still on the table, and with it a playoff berth.

If they skid into the finish, lose to the cacks, miss the ACCCG and the playoffs, I'd be willing to admit that they built me up, buttercup, just to let me down in the end.

But I won't join in with those whose response to adversity is to start chucking verbal water bottles at Swinney's head from the comfort of their seats in the stands.

Go Tigers. On to the next one.

Good argument against the ACC having an automatic bid. If there’s a reasonable scenario where this CU team makes the playoffs, then the system is badly broken. I can’t see how they stay top 20 much less top 12.

With that being said THEY are currently out playing us. THEY are currently out recruiting us both in the portal and in incoming talent. All on what can only be less of a budget. Let’s remember the sec contract hasn’t kicked in yet. Nor can that money be used for NIL but somehow they are beating us in talent acquisition.

Beamer can recruit. If the birds are already getting this level of recruiting with not much to sell in terms of program success under Beamer, Imagine what they’ll do if they can turn the corner on the field. And don’t kid yourself, SC has been making up ground in NIL resources (though they’re still middle of the pack in the SEC at best).

Lets look at the opponents like this, which is their record outside of playing us since you logically shouldn't "penalize" us for beating teams at the same "rewarding" teams when they beat us

UGA = 6-1
App state = 4-3
NCST = 5-3
Stanford = 2-6
FSU = 1-7
Wake = 4-3
UVA = 4-3
Louisville = 5-3

Objectively that tells me we are 2-0 against teams with a losing record and 4-2 against teams with a winning record

So how does one put some sort of definition around what "pulse" means? Even if we remove the extremes of UGA and App State what do you use to differentiate L'ville, Wake and UVA?

Self defined "with a pulse".

All mediocre except UGA.
That includes Louisville.

Since then, we beat VA Tech, 4-3 at the time.

We need to win out to have any chance at the playoffs.

Totally agree. I do feel pretty hurt today after this one - feels a lot like the Duke L.

The duke L was an indication of the season. I hope this is just a blip and not a turn for the Tigers.

False premise, much.

There's no panic. It's simply recognizing reality and avoiding sunshine pumping.

Neither Miami nor SMU are going to lose 2 ACC games....ain't happening so the ACC/playoffs are off the table.

If Clemson wins its remaining two ACC games,

and Miami and SMU lose one of theirs, what happens in the three-way tie that is created, given there is no head-to-head result to refer to?

Or even a two-way tie if one of them loses just one game? How does that get decided?

The program is in full decline and no army of Dabo apologists can stop it? Please just keep telling us how beating up App State showed we are headed to the playoffs.

I don't remember ever equating the App result

with a playoff berth.

Although I will say that Francis Marion's take on the importance of the App State win must not be overlooked.
