So, Ted Lasso and more plot cultural forcing. spoilers

So for those of you whose go-to on all things cultural is "Ermigod why do you CAAAAARE?", this season of Ted Lasso is a great reason why the current trend of cultural quota-meeting is so maddening.
Pretty much no homosexuality in previous seasons of TL, and it's like all of a sudden, that's a problem to the writers/producers that has to be rectified with immediate effect, regardless of how forced and shallow it feels wedging it into the storyline.
So all of a sudden, a player we have never seen before, whose joining of the team was never explained, has a boyfriend, and we're going to make a story arc out of it somehow. On top of it, Keely, who heretofore has been all about men, with a past that seems to have had a ton of horndogging with men in it, is getting freaky out of nowhere in her office with a girl. It makes no sense, came out of left field, and does zero to advance the story of the show.
So lemme explain one more time. I don't care that these gay characters exist, or what they do or who they like. I'm annoyed, as an appreciator of halfway decent writing (and I know, Ted Lasso isn't exactly "Roots"), that these types of segues seem to be in every single show now, and are used as a blatant check the box HR exercise in modern Hollywood. It's completely forced and it's being squeezed in to drive an agenda.
There can be great shows with majority gay characters, and there can be great shows with majority straight characters---good writing is good writing. When you can easily envision the writers meeting though for a show, and picture the HR person coming in and saying "Folks, I love what you've done---one problem, we have no gay characters", it's just sophomoric in how they expect viewers to just nod their heads and go "yeah, that makes sense" when they amend the perceived issue with cheesy tangential story additions.

It’s a lot more palatable to the senses than coach Beard suddenly getting it on with Higgins.

It is a little crazy how when a show is working for whatever formula it has, then all the sudden viewers are force fed agendas. Like viewers won't even notice. People watch these shows for entertainment, not to be lectured.

from violence, bullying, and discrimination. I believe they have the right to live freely and openly just like everybody else. None of that poses any threat to me or anyone else. Having said that, when I sit down to be entertained in front of my TV, I don't want to be preached to with awkwardly forced story lines that stray from the basic premise of the show and everything that made it good to start with. In your example, nobody watches Ted Lasso to be told that Gay people are good and normal and just like everybody else.

TV ad.
I was reading an article this morning in the NY Post about the "Corporate Equality Index" that is a social rating scheme being pushed by the Human Rights Campaign (the largest LGBTQ+ political lobbying group in the world).
The Corporate Equality Index is a type of social credit score that is made up and pushed on corporations as a measure of compliance to the LGBTQ+ agenda. There is no science or measurable method to the HRC’s index, only categories like “Corporate social responsibility,” which advise companies on “marketing or advertising to LGBTQ consumers.” HRC determines whether the categories have been fulfilled and to what degree, then doles out invisible “points” as a reward for compliance. As long as corporations accumulate above a certain amount of CEI points, they are largely left alone by the leftist alphabet mob. If a corporation falls below a certain CEI score, HRC sends representatives to the corporation with a list of demands. It's a form of corporate intimidation and apparently it works.
While Hollywood isn't a single corporation, I imagine it gets the same treatment by these Soros backed non-profits such as HRC. It's all just another weapon the radical left uses as part of the culture war in which they unceasingly engage.
Here's the article if you care to read it: https://nypost.com/2023/04/07/inside-the-woke-scoring-system-guiding-american-companies/#

Most shows, that are decent, have about 2 seasons before it becomes purely a vehicle for advertisement. They are searching for new advertising audience. The show will certainly be dumbed down moving forward.

Ted has transformed from an Andy Griffith type character dropping folksy wisdom to a yuk-yuk bumpkin who seems to exist just to drop one-liners and demonstrate anxiety this season.

There are two kinds of shows these days. Shows that start out woke and get cancelled after a season or two and shows that dont start woke and are successful but then get hijacked by the woke agenda and go into a ditch

Who cares. I agree putting it into the story lines out of the blue after two seasons is dumb, but the rest is meh.

In 2023 though, how contrived is an “oh no, I’m in the closet?” story line. It’s about as big a deal as an interracial relationship, which, come to think of it, Ted made a big deal out of last season.

His story line was still not too much, I think they're running out of ideas while stalling out Richmond continuing to suck at soccer. Either Richmond is going to go win the league or Ted is leaving the country. Good shows need to just stop at 2-3 seasons IMO.

I read something recently that Apple is now worried about losing one of their few hits, so the show could be continued or we get a very closely related spinoff. Neither sound promising to me.

And behind the scenes people who check these diversity boxes are mandated to have a certain number of jobs whether they know what they are doing or not. This helps explain why most of what Hollywood produces is garbage.

1. buy a fully automatic machine gun at "walmart" = check 2. gay FBI agent = check 3. super angry gay redneck = check 4. go deer hunting with a group of 10 constantly talking men trouncing through the woods and shooting aimlessly = check
Of course only one of those were "demanded" to be introduced; I imagine the others are how Hollywood actually thinks they happen.
