He was supposed to be a big contributor for the OL.

compete with the other guys!! Whether it is in the weight room, in the class room, or at the dining table, it takes a total commitment at this level. Probably a combination of things, but it is on the athlete to want it bad enough to do what is necessary.

Thus far, Spencer has only been able to achieve the "big" part of that description . . . about 40 pounds too big, in fact.

if you don't mind taking 2 steps to the right you'd make room for the serious football talk to make it's way through.

These kids walk a fine line when they get to college. They can choose to work hard, not party, and study hard and possibly make it to the pros, ie Nuk. On the other hand they can choose to party, have fun, and be undisciplined ie Region. For me college was the best time of my life and I enjoyed every minute of it, however, looking back I wish I would have taken it more seriously and gotten more out of it education wise. I feel like a lot of these kids with the god given talent they have will look back and regret not taking advantage of the opportunities they had and that's a shame.

Region isn't really much of a partier from what I know. He might just not be able to lose weight, I'm sure there are a handful of overweight people on tigernet that could attest to that.

Understand this
Mar 28, 2013, 10:39 AM
|
|
The coaches USE the spring/media to motivate and modify player behavior (and sometimes fans). Most of the stuff coming out of spring is Coach-speak so don't get too wrapped up in "this player's light came on", "he's not doing all the things he needs to do", yadayada. Keep it in perspective and realize it is SPRING football. I don't believe but about 50% of what is said; all coaches do it (not just ours).
Region will not contribute unless he gets committed, loses some serious weight, becomes more focused. I would not be surprised if he never makes the field but hopefully he'll get it together soon.

Agree 100%. While a football manager saw several guys with a ton of potential who never saw the field. Some can't make the transition from being a star in HS to college where everyone was a star. Others don't want to work, study -just coast through for 4 years.

There's no problem, he's very big and very talented but there are guys who are in better shape with better ability ahead of him.

He is also set to have surgery on a lower extremity. He is trying to make it through spring before having the surgery. He's injured, not stagnant.
