Yep, and the trouble that decision causes won't be a joke either, it's going to be real and deserving as bad decisions usually are!!!

Really? Different than 60 yr old fans getting tanked in the tailgating lots and staggering into the stadium? Inside or outside the stadium doesn't even matter. Clemson needs money for NIL or its not gonna matter in 5 years. Great decision and way overdue!!

Fully agree! Those folks on the end of the row better have the game taped because they’re going to miss half of it with all the walk-bye. Poor decision and entirely greed driven.

We had aisle seats in section G for most of our 46 years of having season tickets and this is just another reason we are glad we are now watching games in our den. I can't even begin to remember how many drinks were spilled or wobbly fans falling onto fans in their seats and I have no doubt selling beer at games will make that even worse. Tailgating and having a few drinks before games is part of the fun and gameday experience but leave it at the tailgates or the Esso Club. Maybe the prices of beer will be so high that it won't be a huge problem.

Love sipping on Bloodys in the morning and whiskeys after lunch at PGA events. What's the big deal? Everyone that's gonna get drunk is already hammered from the tailgates anyway. And don't try to sell me a 1958 vision of Clemson that is family-friendly...We've been pretty crass and fairly rowdy for years now anyway. Drink up, boys!

They're just gonna get drunker during the game instead of sobering up a bit. They'll be falling down, spilling stuff, trying to fight, etc. I know it is a relatively small percentage, but it's still going to affect the people around them

Harder but not impossible, November game in my student years I had an oversized shirt/jacket, put a 6 pack of cans under myself shirt with a bag of box wine over it and tucked the shirt in/ zipped up the jacket. I’m already a bigger guy so it didn’t look too off. Did re-entry through gate 5 instead of the student gate and my buddies and I had a great 2nd half, can confirm zero people vomited on or beer / wine spilled. 10/10 would recommend

Clemson may drag itself in to the 21sts century eventually
"Clemson has long been one of three Power Four schools nationally that neither offers the sale of alcoholic beverages in its athletic venues nor accepts sponsorship revenue from alcoholic beverage advertisers, and the only school in the ACC, SEC or Big Ten."

I was very lucky to attend Clemson when I did. Total enrollment was 13,000 ish. No traffic jams. Sneaking booze into the games and nothing bad happened because we knew how to behave. Kickoff was at 1:00. Families prepared all week for their tailgate food. We knew people in all IPTAY lots. I will take the 20th century Clemson tailgate experience any day on what it has morphed into. BTW, I still belong to IPTAY and purchase tickets but, I will not stay silent for someone that suggests the current environment is better than what we used to have.

It’s not April fools. This has been in the works. People if don’t like it don’t come. You attend concerts, pro events and go to restaurants etc. Clemson is behind in many areas. Every penny counts and will help generate missing revenue that will help with the university and athletics! You want better facilities? Better players? Uniforms? Merchandise? Marketing/promotions?
It all tickles down. Well done clemson. Finally getting with times. We know what prices will be so it’s not like one person is actually are gonna end up buying 30 during a game. If there was a problem then they wouldn’t be doing this. Other schools wouldn’t do this as well. Get out of your bubble and travel to other events across the country and you’d see we at clemson are behind.
Officials have looked at all angles. Wouldn’t do this if a problem. There is always a problem and backlash with anything in life.

I know the drinking by those who want to has been going on since the 50’s in the parking lot & restroom bar.
I personally think it’s not a great example for the kids and does selling out what was so special for a long long time the right thing to do.
We’ve been so so blessed without it and the family atmosphere is special.
I know most feel it’s the only way but sometimes being different pays off as it has in the past.
I believe we could have come up with better ways to make money, like some great food options.

Well, I guess I will stay home now, forget going to see the Tigers now that you are allowing alcohol. Worse decision the Athletic Department could ever make! It’s bad enough people can’t walk on sidewalks or drive for that, now you going to allow these people to drink, lmaof! This will blow up in their faces! CLEMSON FAMILY, HA!, I’ll stay home and watch the games, last thing I want to do is walk over some drunk fan or student who are so drunk they’re up chucking their guts, no thanks! I’m good watching from home!

Cool won’t miss ya. You can easily fall down with out handrails or with handrails as well. Don’t go to restaurants, concerts, pro events etc.
If was issue then they and others wouldn’t do this …if wanna compete at top level and stay consistent every penny counts. You know those facilities that helps recruiting and such. Yeah guess where money comes from…all over the place. Get out and go across the nation and you’d be surprised how far Clemson is in many aspects.
I’ll take your tickets no problem

Enjoy those $15 beers gang! And I hope they've taken some lessons from other venues to have ample places to purchase. Otherwise, you're gonna be in line for awhile and miss a good chunk of the game for a beer.

This Saturday's "Spring Game" sounds a bit more like a Colonial Cup for the Upstate. It's not a traditional Us vs Us set-up, Orange vs White style. Some 11 on 11 scrimmage pieces full throttle, but also more limited competitions 7 on 7's and position group showcases.
Preliminary races for a while then a main event is how it came across from prior quotes and reporting. Shaping up for a beautiful day for it all.

Aren't we the LAST school in the ACC to offer beer? Even the Baptist at Wake Forest are selling it. Welcome to 2025 Clemson. A day late and a dollar short on progress!

opposed… liability insurance will be costly and all season ticket holders will get to pay that tab down the road! Just because all the other schools jump off the bridge so I guess we have to now follow! Sad times for what was unique Clemson.

Karen’s who are sad and upset…”family atmosphere “ it’s family when people sneak it in already and fight and pile like y’all say. Students and other opposing fans and Clemson fans curse as well. Is that family atmosphere. Heck I’ve fallen down steps sober and without hand rails and I’ve seen people fall with hand rails. So I guess you wanna be stuck in the 50’s and stay in the dust and others like wake, tcu , bama, osu, Texas everyone else is leaving and helping there programs grow. I’ve been to many facilities and traveled. Man it’s huge issue. Not! Bad apples everywhere and always police if issues. Also officials from clemson and others wouldn’t do it. Just please don’t bother and come. Don’t need you. You’re probably the ones who park near me and tell us to turn music down. Always fun police somewhere.

Just nitpicking ...
"Clemson staff and vendors may not serve beer, wine or liquor to anyone under the age of 21."
Shouldn't "may" be "will"?

but have no desire to ban alcohol at tailgates, you're either a fool or a hypocrite, probably both.
There will be zero change in the number of drunk people, zero change in the family atmosphere, zero change in the number of EMS events (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10047730/).
The ONLY change is the amount of money going to Clemson athletics.

The link didn't work, but the evidence seems to suggest because of more enforcement officers by nature it will actually help reduce the possibility of problems.
It'll work out.

I'm not a prude about alcohol, but I think this is a horrible idea and I think it's going to degrade the game day experience. I've been to plenty of sporting events where alcohol was sold, and at almost every single one there's something alcohol-related to mar the evening--getting beer spilled on you, people getting into fights, overly obnoxious fans, long lines causing obstructions.
This a stupid decision.

Bad things increase significantly when alcohol is involved. I don't think one needs to be a genius to know this.

I am rather indifferent to this. My one thought is that it is sad that many people think they need alcohol in order to enjoy any event that they go to from the game to their 5 year old's birthday party. I enjoy a beer as much as the next guy. Probably more since I brew beer as a hobby. I do know from experience that a family atmosphere can be quickly ruined by only one person that does not control their drinking so a game with a magnitude more people drinking stands a better chance of it not being the best. That said, I have been to alot of professional sports events and beer sales never seem to have ruined the day for my kids. I suppose its mixed feelings. On the one hand I miss the time when people did not think they need a mind altering substance in order to enjoy time together and on the other is my knowledge that beer is just a drink and not bottled sin. as long as folks are responsible it's just another day.
I just got back from my youngest daughter's wedding where they chose not to serve alcohol at the reception because of the number of alcoholics on both sides of the family. I thought it might be a dud of a party, but it turned out people can dance and have just as much fun without the booze. We had a great time. Saved me a bunch of cash too!

For beer?

I've never tried beer before but now I'm going to get belligerently drunk at every Clemson home game because the comments seem to suggest that.
Seriously though, I'm glad they didn't change the policy where we can go back to our tailgates at halftime; I was afraid that's what selling beer at the stadium would mean. Home games will still be the best!

I mean, football makes money. Clemson makes money. We need money more than ever judging by countless posts here for years at this point.
Ecstasy is not the same at all, to be fair. People drink at Clemson games, they'll drink at the spring game this very weekend, & the city of Clemson would be inescapably different without alcohol, for better or worse (that's not necessarily an endorsement, either).
I understand not being OK with the idea Clemson will be the one to benefit from beer sales, sincerely, I'm only trying to understand the anger; it's explicit & vast, & I feel like I'm missing something more than the sins of greed or gluttony.
Maybe it is as simple as it being sinful (my father was a preacher, FWIW), I'm only trying to understand is all, not to change anyone's mind, but so many people are so passionately & so vocally against this change I felt compelled to learn more.
If you want to add to that, I'm listening, nothing more, promise.

I'm kinda surprised how many people are so angry at Clemson for this. I knew there would be some, but the deluge is a surprise & I'm curious about that.
Honest question, why is it so bad? Every other school but BYU & Utah are already doing it, we're not explicitly a Christian university, & the money part doesn't seem so bad (football generates tremendous revenue, too) & even Jesus turned water into wine (not to sound cynical, sincerely). There will be more enforcement by law now & the money seems inescapably beneficial, but why is selling beer ourselves such a big outlier to so many?
