I hate to say it, but Clemson lacks speed...

Across the board.

No big time play-makers on offense. Defensive line lacks a true edge rusher. Linebackers lack bend and true sideline to sideline player. Defensive backfield consistently gets beat.

Been a while since this has been the case and it doesn't seem like the new recruiting class is going to add any true burners either.

On the plus side...we do have a lot of good "football" players, but the margin for error seems to be much smaller with Clemson. Next year could be pretty frustrating too. FSU, UNC, Miami, etc are all getting better and the gap is getting smaller.

Strength in the trenchs is suspect too. Both sides of the ball get pushed around WAY too much to control the lines. Its almost back to the point where people are going to start throwing the "finesse" term around again before the playoff run began. This team has the talent, we just need to get tougher in the trenches and faster on the outside like you said.

enough about it to be honest.

I would say it mostly boils down to recruiting and missing out on guys with more speed.
