Deebo Samuel. This past year I heard Jeff Scott say
Dec 3, 2018, 6:36 PM
|
|
“Once we get an in home visit, we know within the first five minutes whether or not this is the kind of guy that can fit in with our program. Believe you me, we have walked away from some really great athletes.” Check out some of Georgia’s and Auburn’s recruits and former players...thugs. Don’t know whether we offered Deebo or not, but if we did, and he came to Clemson, I guarantee he would have ended up playing all games remaining. Think of Deshawn and Sammy. Look at what they risked playing two more college games.
Our coaching staff knows how to evaluate players...talent and character.

I don’t know the kid but I know the coots so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. It’s gotta be hard to put forth effort for that dumpster fire.

wouldn't sit out a meaningless bowl game were they in his shoes.
It says nothing of his character.

I agree, id hope Coach Swinney would tell a future 1st or 2nd Rd guy he should sit if we had a meaningless bowl(which I don't forsee anytime soon). The low tier bowl games are good for getting younger players expierence and evaluating next year's team Imo. It's in all party's best interest to not risk a player to be drafted high. It helps recruiting when you get guys drafted high and obviously it's good for the player

Correct, Hunter wouldn't sit out as he doesn't have a high draft grade.

I want to agree with you but I'd like to point out that a few years ago, we had a couple of defensive players who hardly played all season. Dogged it so they wouldn't get hurt.

the last lower tier bowl we played in-- we've been in the playoffs since. We would have a number of players(not all) that would sit out just like any other school.

Well it definitely does say something about their character. If they don't play, it doesn't mean that it reflects negatively on their character, but if they do play I think it definitely says something positive about their character. I would like to think I would choose to play, but there are a lot of factors that we may not be privy to that prompts any decision like that! Samuel probably made the best choice for himself.

Now I do remember one time he sure as heck did not quit. That was when he came out of no where to run down the Ville to save that game.

Your un-drafted team mates battled with you so that you could have this opportunity. It’s extremely selfish to turn your back on them. It is a privilege to go to battle with them one last time. Don’t turn your back on them when they need you the most.

Debo is a great young man. Scar was his only major D1 offer, which baffled me. I watched him play in high school and he was a no brainer 4/5 star player. We had a great receiver class that year so I can understand why we didn't offer but I'm surprised he didn't have other offers. If Scar hadn't offered at the last minute I believe he was going to App State.

If he were to get injured again he likely wouldn't get drafted. That's a pretty big hit on your career all to play in the Josh Bowl.

Not playing in the game says nothing to his character. I wouldn't play in a meaningless bowl either if I were him. Especially with his injury history.

The young man already had a pretty serious injury. The bowl is meaningless. The only question he should ask advisors.... does it hurt my draftgrade?

I know a guy close to the Chapman football program and the academic side as well. Deebo's grades were so bad that noone ever thought he'd qualify so he was not recruited seriously by anyone. most classes filled and of course the deCOOTments took place. He "miraculously" qualified at the last second and USuCk scooped him up. Most people didn't even know he existed

whenever our playoff run finally ends and 1 (or more) of our players announces that they are skipping the bowl game to focus on the draft. It IS going to happen, it's just a matter of time.

To me, that will ALWAYS be an individual decision, with a whole lot of factors weighing in. Players with pro potential have to start looking at the business side of things at some point.
1) Is the bowl game high profile enough to help players exposure. 2) Does it have potential to increase his draft stock with a good performance. 3) How healthy is the player going into the bowl game. 4) What is the likelihood of injury? (For instance, if you are a QB that has been running for your life all year, stay home! 5) If you are already rated 1st round, and there is nothing to really play for, why risk it?
This will not be popular with some, but makes sense to others.
