Clemson NIL big spending athletes?

Anybody been through the football facility's parking lot recently? All this talk about other teams' QBs and such with Lambos, Aston Martins, wrists and necks full of ice, 6-figure watches, etc. Just curious if any Clemson players are taking (noticeable/public) advantage of some of that NIL money. I don't knock any of it. You give me 6 or 7 figures when I was their age, you would have seen some excess here and there! Hopefully most of them are being wiser with the balance of it than the media makes it out to be, but - not my problem!

I’m sure Dabo sets them up with stringent financial counseling and has them coached up on investing vs immediate gratification. I believe most cars you see though are lease gifts by dealers - Carson beck got his Lamborghini this way iirc.

It won't be long before you start hearing...

about some of these kids being in trouble with their respective states and the IRS for failing to pay taxes on their NIL earnings. The kids (and their parents) will pi$$ away most of the money and not have enough to cover the tax liability. Unlike the scholarships that used to be a student-athlete's only direct compensation for playing, NIL payments are taxable income. Just wait for it!

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Yep and not just income…they also have to cover the full 12% for social security taxes.

Hopefully they know to lease and not buy a high-cost depreciating asset. In many cases, I believe the dealer provides a no cost lease instead of the athlete actually owing the vehicle.

I got a windfall once from Clemson.

I was charged some lab fees one semester and I didn't have any labs, so at the end of the semester they reimbursed me.

I spent that windfall on a new (used) tire for my 280z that was bald, and a few pizzas for me and my buddies.

Ah, the days when buying a whole set of new tires at once was a pipe dream.

My only windfall while at Clemson was at the end of the semesters

Heaven forbid that you start a post addressing the need for these young folks to be smart with their money and spending it wisely.

Imagine that you have a talented player that was raised in a low income household, and all of a sudden someone comes along and offers him 2 or 3 million and a new car. You can probably guess what happens next.
