US Navy helicopters just sank 3 Yemeni motorized canoes in the Red Sea

They were attacking a Singapore container ship in the Red Sea. Helicopters told them to leave. They shot at the helicopters. They're now sleeping with the fish. Maersak now has halted Red Sea shipping.
At some point this gets to be a big problem. And WHY can a bunch of terrorists in john boats attack, and take over a ship hauling billions in goods? These ships need guns, missiles, rockets, and a way to defend themselves, aside from the US Navy. These aren't the pirates of yesterday who had cannons and ships of equal size and speed. There's no excuse IMO.

"The Red Sea serves an important role in the global economy, with cargo vessels traveling between the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea every year, thus shortening the path between Asia and Europe almost by half (as compared to traveling around Africa via the Atlantic Ocean)."

We're there. We're highly capable.

It gives us a chance to flex nuts for soft power purposes.
And shooting down ballistic missiles from a naval ship is a solid flex.
But mostly we're already there. And we're highly capable.

Commerce. There is an international coalition keeping that straight an open shipping lane.

I’m struggling to wrap my head around a 10 figure load of cargo on a single ship.

I didn't know, but I found this.
"A typical VLCC tanker has a capacity of around 2 million barrels, so the entire cargo is worth $140M.Jun 16, 2019

Roughly 2,000 containers per ship

$20,000 each just in empty containers so $40 million there.
Fill one with cell phones and that one is worth $40 million.
Total cargo could easily be over $1 billion
