Charging due to the cold. Cars are sitting at charging stations dead and want except a charge. Government wants us to get EVs, not me. Sticking with gas powered. Guess they will have to wait until the weather gets warmer, hahaha.

Yep EVs are a waste of space. Hydrogen fuel cells will be a real game changer in the long run. Normal fill up procedure but with all the benefits of an electric engine, best of both worlds

I agree. I’ve seen the working concept cars they have released overseas, and they have already converted some John Deere tractors to hydrogen power in China. The best part of these vehicles is that they create massive amounts of power, and produce small amounts of water as an emission.

Current technology requires a lot of electricity to get hydrogen from water. Fossil fuels will have to do until we make advancements in science or fire up more nuclear to get the power needed to make hydrogen.

I’ll give Elon this: I just got internet at my house via his company Starlink, and it is incredible. Even with Spectrum and all these other companies providing internet to rural areas it was unavailable to me. We built the house we wanted on some land we bought just outside of Barnwell, SC and have not been able to get a decent internet service since we moved in to the house in 2019. I kept checking the waiting period for Starlink and it went from a year wait in 2021 to 2 weeks recently. I put down the initial payment, and got the equipment in only 7 days. It took a little worn to run the cable under my house, but I knocked out all of it in about 15 min. I can stream 4K movies with absolutely ZERO lag/buffering.

No way in this world. Charging station right outside of Lowe’s and I can go in and shop for a while and come back by and they are still there. Crazy. Technology needs to get a little better imo.
My biggest fear is blowing up. You hear about a few but wonder what that real number is. An EV bus just burst into flames somewhere (Europe?) I believe it was last week. Scary

The facts don't seem to matter either. If you consider the total pollution through manufacturing and eventual disposals EVs are far less green than gasoline vehicles. EV's failing when it is cold should not be surprising. What is the one thing that stops a gasoline vehicle from starting in severe cold? The danged battery. Sears Die hard batteries used to advertise how good their batteries stood up to extreme cold. It was a genuine selling point, because car batteries died all the time when it was super cold out.

as is, the structural design of the car rarely changes much so you're not 'missing out', and other than tires there shouldnt be much more to do to the car (as I understand it) with maintenance so that's like having a new car for $11k every 6 years. His whole concept is to make cars ubiquitous.

to get to the point we all are taking mass transit / public transportation. Its an environmentalists dream to remove the norm of car ownership from the equation. Won't happen overnight, it'll be a process but at some point average income earners won't be able to afford a car anymore. Davos has already floated these ideas as the way to the future.

There is good and bad in that. If you have studied our nation's infrastructure problems to any depth, one of the biggest problems we face as a nation is maintaining roadways. Fewer cars will mean much lower taxes.
It is not that we need to force people into EV's or into not buying cars. However, we could be smarter at developing cities so people could get around easily and safely without cars. Thereby making car's optional. If you have ever traveled to Munich Germany or Zurich Sw then you will have an idea of how nice life can be with a decent mass transit system.
Check out Strong Towns...Their ideas are growing in popularity because they not only make for areas that are economically sustainable to live in, they are better places to live. It is by no means some Progressive boondoggle. On the contrary, it argues to have government push better development so taxes will not be as high in the long run. https://www.strongtowns.org/

"...Fewer cars will mean much lower taxes..."
What made-up world do you live in????
The state of Michigan enacted a "mileage tax" after the "gas-tax" lost so much money due to ppl buying electric cars.
The federal gov't is here for two things: To start wars and to separate you from any money you've ever earned.

I live in the world of roads not being maintained due to lack of money...have you driven around SC lately? Did you not see the huge increase in taxes and registration costs that has not produced what they said it would? Have you driven from Georgia to SC or NC to SC and seen the immediate decline in the quality of the roads as soon as you cross the borders? They need more money...they always will need more money because the infrastructure cannot be sustained without huge tax increases yet to come.

If left up to the 'government', taxes would never go down. They view your money as their money. How else are they to grow the government, if not by spending your money better than you could? You would just waste it on things you wanted, rather than on things the governments thinks you need.

The Tesla cars look like junk with an iPad glued to their dash. The Tesla truck is junk. The Toyota Prius will guarantee you don't get laid for life. The Chevy Volt was a massive DUD. Most chargers take up to 45 mins to charge a car and that's AFTER you've waiting for the other guy to finish charging his.
And the best part.....
Drilling for oil leaves a (relatively) tiny hole in the earth. An active coal mine in South America is currently the size of 18 football fields and is deep enough for a 20 story apartment.
Sometime the stupidity of the human race is astounding.

I rented a hybrid last fall and it was great. Round-trip 2 counties away (several hundred miles) and only had get 3/4 of a tank.
Hybrids could be a good way to conserve fuel and to reduce pollution without all of the infrastructure needed for EVs.

He said that in winter it used to be fireplaces that caused all the house fires in winter, then the majority changed to space heater fires, and now there are more and more charging station fires in the winter. He said that if it is a nicer neighborhood and the garage is the place of the ignition, it is always an EV charger which has caused the fire.

best of luck with that. In ten years, you will not have many options other than to buy a used beater and pay 14.00 a gal at the pump. But hey, at least you do not have to worry about charging your car in Chicago when it is cold.

I saw a TV ad for the new Jeep Wrangler 4Xe (electric and gas 4X4) so I checked it out online. You can turn a switch to run electric or turn to gas. When I pulled up the specs I was shocked. It gets 22 miles per charge, that's correct 22 miles. Why bother?

Here’s the thing; EVs have their place, but it should be a consumer driven choice, NOT government funded mandate.
This failure in cold weather is just totally ignored by the folks pushing this and we don’t need our country crippled every time it gets cold.
