Any events or individuals you're planning to follow?
I feel like there hasn't been a very big build up for our athletes this year as there has been in the past. No Dan vs. Dave-type campaigns to help hype them up.
Only ones who really come to mind are Katy Ledecky, Simone Biles, and the men's basketball team (which #### near lost to South Sudan yesterday in a friendly, lol).

Tanner Tessmann, Dabo’s godson who almost came and played soccer and kicked for us, will be a starting midfielder for the Olympic soccer team. I expect the US team to be fairly competitive, but who knows. Seems we should have some exciting track athletes as well. I’m very excited, but I also rarely watch TV and will probably miss most of the events I want to see.
Go Tigers!

He could run a sub 44 second 400m. He has the potential to get close to the WR. We'll do well in the short sprints too. I'm looking forward to us snatching a few bronze medals away from the Africans in the longer distances too.

Any of the ones with local ties especially the 3 from Charleston Navarro in tennis, raven Saunders shot put and Jasmine Quinn in 100 hurdles though she is running for Puerto Rico so I will be rooting for the person representing the USA. Track & Field is generally the one I follow the most but I enjoy all of them particularly ones USA does well in.

Not at all. Not amateurs anymore. Foreign countries use professional athletes in many sports and are drug enhanced in many.

they usually do draw me in simply because you can feel the high level of competition even watching it on TV. there is always a performer/performers that grab the attention of the world out of nowhere so that is the cool thing about it.
I do think the Olympics is a little past its use by date in terms of it being the biggest sports spectacle in the world like it used to be, but it's still a neat event overall.
I just hope there is no "incident" in Paris, scripted or otherwise, keep the fans and everyone safe we all know "they" like to communicate things via the opening and closing ceremony and all the eyeballs of the world on the event.

The Olympics are special.
I'll follow a little bit of most sports, but mainly I'll be watch Track & Field and a little bit of Basketball, Gymnastics and Swimming.
Being an old distance guy myself I'll be interested in anything 800m and up (Especially 5k, 10k and marathon), but I love watching all events when it comes to the Olympics.

Only the events that can be timed or measured. The judging events not so much. Too subjective.

When Biles quit and they praised her, kinda lost interest. Kelly Clarkson is one of the main commentators. Fingernails on chalkboard. Too much DEI and tear jerking human interest stories and not enough sports.

No it’s a hard pass for me. Disrupts my regular programming. Colossal waste of money if you ask my. Venues that are over grown shortly after they are used. It’s a joke if you ask me.

What programming? LOL. It's hard to find anything decent to watch on network TV anymore except game shows especially in the summer months.
No stadium for the opening ceremony. I am interested to see the flotilla down the Seine for the opening.

Guess that depends on what you like to watch. I’m a big discovery guy. Deadliest catch and destination unknown kinda guy. Those episodes will wait till after the Olympics to release new episodes. Kinda like shark week which I’m not a fan of for the same reason. Plenty of good tv on in the summer.

I figured out a few years ago why regular sports fans don't like the Olympics
Jul 22, 2024, 10:41 AM
|
|
It's NBC's fault. They do story after story on the athletes with less attention paid to the competition itself. Combine that with the number of judged events that are more about beauty than sport, like rhythmic gymanstics, synchronized swimming, etc. and its annoying for us fans that like objective scores and clear rules.
They cater the Olympic broadcast to women who don't normally watch sports.
Oh, and Bob Costas is a d!ck and I'm glad Mike Tirico has taken over that spot.
