My poor back
Nov 17, 2022, 6:58 AM
|
|
Took a vacation day yessaday.
Woke up and left the house to go to my allergy testing appointment. About 200 yards from our house, a HS girl rear-ended the crap out of my wife's Explorer. Nice little case of whiplash. Then we continue on to my appointment, where they stick about 100 needles in my back to test for food allergies. Nuts - still allergic. Seafood - nope, must have been a cross contamination with nuts. So I guess that was good news. Get home from all of that and get asked to go move furniture with my "strong" 11 year old son. I moved: a china cabinet and a buffet from my brother's to my dad's. A dining room table and chairs from my brother's to my house. A heavyass oak desk (old school military's surplus) from my brothers playroom to his new downstairs office. Set up the china cabinet and buffet at my dad's house, set the dining room table and chairs up at my house. Packed up my old dining room table and chairs.
So I moved all of that heavyazzz furnature with the help of an 11 year old boy, a pregnant SIL, a dad with a bum shoulder, a step mom who is of no help what-so-ever. I felt like Will Shipley/Antonio Williams playing with the rest of our offense. It was a 1 man show.
Woke up this morning... surprisingly my back isn't really that sore. I mean, it hurts, but no more than it does every.single.day.of.my.life.
So... do chiropractors do any good? I've never been to one before, but I'm really contemplating it. Please share your chiropractic experiences here, to help out an old man.

fairly bad wreck 18 months ago i developed "old man back". Lawyered up and got a few thousand dollars out of it and had them pay for my PT for a few months. Honestly, I could have gotten that much without a lawyer. Also, it took about a year to get paid. The few K was certainly not worth it.

He works for one of those mega-firms that's all over TV and billboards. FIL assured me that he was really good and everything he did followed their normal protocol.
Med. bills ended up being about $9K. Car damage was $4K maybe.
I got the car fixed, but no money for loss of value because I couldn't get any dealerships to quote me on what the loss would be (and why would they... what's in it for them). My lawyer said there was no money there...
At first, insurance didn't even offer to fully cover the medical bills.
Then, they agreed to pay them.
1 year later, we have mediation. I ask for $40K. Their opening offer is $12K. At this point, I let the two lawyers go back and forth... We ended up at like $14K or something ridiculously low. At that point, I could either accept it or go to court. My lawyer said he's had a million cases like this and it'd be a crap shot... but I wouldn't likely get much more than the $14K offer, and with the increased legal fees, I may not even do that good. He told me a year ago that between $15K and $12K is where he saw this going. He said it's pretty much a matter of statistics at that point...
SOOOOO, after I paid my lawyer (a family-discounted rate) and paid my medical bills, I walked away with about $3K in pain and suffering.
I bitchedd to my FIL about how disappointed I was with the whole process, and I guess he ran that up his ladder, because they cut me a check for $1K (the law firm did) to make it up to me.
Compare that with a high school kid that fell off his bike in front of my house because my dog barked at him a few years ago and he broke his collar bone. Dude got like $90K, and has zero long-term affects, I assume.
I think the biggest issue is that my injuries were "soft tissue" and the kid on the bike had a provable medical injury... broken bone.

IMO, it depends on how much you will have to deal

with the aftermath of the wreck going forward. If it didn't hurt before, and it's still bothering you now, then you probably didn't get enough. But if it's about the same as baseline pre-accident, you probably got what's about right I guess. Those mega-firms are volume practices. But they take cases with little to no permanency. There are lots of firms that wouldn't take a case with no permanent injuries but they will try the cases and get verdicts. Doing that gets you a reputation with insurance companies and they pay you more for the ones you do settle.

One visit shouldn’t kill you. Massage could be the right answer… opt for the crying banana finish! *Don’t let a chiropractor mess with your neck unless you really trust them.

Probably +3 for Yoga - not really counting.
Can't puff the magic dragon b/c of work place testing, but there are other natural, and possibly fungal, options out there for the stress/relaxation.
thanks.

Deep muscle massage gun is nice though. And a TENS device.
I do hear a good Bj does wonders to relax the back.

it vibrates my fat and makes me itch, from the vibrations, I guess. It's not a pleasant feeling.
I have some balls that I roll around on and a hard foam roller to dig deep in my muscles.
Anybody else use a TENS device? Sounds intradesting...
BJ sounds interesting. Do you have any secret tricks to get the taste out of your mouth when it's over?
Thanks!

damage to the 'Stang. My back was all jacked up. Did PT for a few months, and dialed all 9's just to get a few K a year later...
Dad was broadsided about 6 months ago. Car totaled. He had 6 broken ribs, a punctured and collapsed lung, cracked sternum, broken collar bone, and maybe some other injuries.... That was the one where the E/R discharged him and sent him back home with tylanol. He went to Urgent Care 3 days later after still feeling bad and Urgent Care rushed him to the Trauma unit... Dumb-azzz ER doctor!
Some old b-word hit my wife as she was parked in my mustang about 8 months ago... just cosmetic damage to the 'stang. Poor 'stang.
HS girl rear-ended me, wife, and son in the explorer yesterday. Minimal outward damage on the explorer (who knows about frame damage), but we're all pretty dang sore at the moment.
That's the only car accidents I recall in recent memory. None were our fault. I'm about sick and tired of these ######## drivers!

Plus, this time it would be even harder, since I have pre-existing back injuries.
I think our best course of action would be to get a monetary payout from insurance for not seeing a doctor. Apparently that's a thing. FIL works for one of these "dial all 9's" type lawyers and that's what he recommended.
I'm also considering waiting until she's 18 and rear-ending her as retribution..... you know, an Eye for a brown-eye. Code of Harambe, old Testament style.

I hope you got out of your rear-ended car with your hand behind your head holding your neck.
Secondly, go to the doctor TODAY and tell them what happened and that you have a sore neck/back. Maybe even get a referral to an ortho or a chiropractor.
You will get some extra settlement money from her ins co. Gotta know how to play the game, playa.

Played the game last year, probably wasn't even worth it TBH. Lexington County is horribly conservative with payouts of this type, according to my lawyer. We settled in mediation. Could have gotten the money by asking nicely, probably.

My unsolicited medical advice as someone without...
Nov 17, 2022, 9:10 AM

Any medical training.
No, I don't think you need a chiropractor. I've heard mixed thoughts on them; usually from medical professionals, it's not recommended. But I also don't see how a massage or just one visit would hurt anything. I think once you make it a regular thing, though, you have to keep going.
You may instead want to take a harder look at your sleeping situation and your mattress. That can be the source of a lot of back problems, and switching to something else helped me out a lot.
I'm not a doctor but I watch YouTube videos.

I meant more that the chiropractor adjustment thing is--but that's just what I've been told.
As for whether or not massages are habit-forming, you'll need to consult an expert like Deshaun.
