Big problem is that they are asking DJ to run

that's not his thing. He's a pocket-type with a WR room who can't catch.
I think Cade is better suited for this offense because of his legs.

You are probably right, although DJ did look more comfortable in the second half.

You’re right that the RPO offense is NOT his strong suit. The crazy thing is that neither is pocket passing. I’ll grant that our WR’s aren’t great but part of that is his inability to look off or pump fake. DBs aren’t afraid of DJ and their coverage is good because they know who and when he’s throwing to because he tells them with his eyes. The other side of it is he doesn’t seem to feel the pocket very well and doesn’t move up in the pocket at the right time. He just seems to be a half step behind in everything.
I want him to succeed but the reality seems that Cade is a better QB.

^^^ spot on ^^^
Dabo knows what he's doing. Need to take it slow with Cade, but he's earned a few series with the ones in the first half. Good analysis.

Dabo does know

But this feels different than any other QB transition we’ve had. If that’s the Cade they’ve been seeing in practice then something is off. Best is the standard and every position is open; until it isn’t and then you’ve got some issues.

remember though that he's dealt with this OL for over a season now. Though I agree with a lot of what you said.

And I’ll acknowledge they’ve been bad; but he hasn’t made them look better. To be great in college football you need a Difference maker at QB who makes the other units look better through their creativity, toughness, “it” , etc…. DJ doesn’t do that.
Our recipe for success has been predicated off exceptionally talented QBs and who make you forget about the OL deficiencies.

I tend to agree. With DJ you need to run a pro set but our offense and playbook and oline isn't built for that imo. Said it last year and saying it again this year.
@bretfsu said correctly earlier, the mesh point with DJ ain't his thing.

I don’t understand why we recruited DJ.

He’s more of a pro style QB, and our coaches are determined to have a dual threat QB and do RPO stuff.
But since our coaches did recruit him, it’s their job to build an offense around him that complements his skills. Elliott couldn’t do that. I hope Streeter can.

finally started attacking the middle of the field and using the TE late in the 3rd and it started working, why wait that long?

He doesn’t fit what we do / did. I think we got caught up in the chase and forgot to look at wether or not he fit our game plan.

correct. and randall has not played and wr’s will get better. as they should. dj threw some dimes and also missed wide open receivers in 1st half holding the ball. he’s a great kid and has worked hard. we saw a snapshot of cade. and he was nonplussed.
he was also up 34-10. that has something to do with it. it’s first game. hopefully wr’s begin to fight for the ball.
