I don't understand

those people that go out of their way to CORRECT SPELLING AND GRAMMAR, why? Does it make you feel intellectually superior? We all should understand that with the auto-correct spelling feature on most devices, sometimes it happens. We should also accept that grammar and spelling aren't everyone's forte, so give it a rest. This is a message board for goodness sake, we need to understand it's better to let the little stuff slide. This is suppose to be a place where Clemson fans come to exchange thoughts, ideas and a general love for the Tigers. Not to be called out like a 3rd grader because of spelling and grammar mistakes. GEEEZ! "Lighten up, Francis!"

I don't feel the need to come on a message board and correct or criticize someone's grammatical errors. It seems more like something a coot would do.

Maybe you should check your dictionary before your start calling someone a moron! I don't usually call someone out for their grammatical errors, but I will make an exception for you.

I usually only call out coots for grammar and spelling
Dec 6, 2014, 12:42 PM
|

because they are coots. However, I do wonder why grammar and spelling isn't everyone's "forte" as you put it. Unless English isn't your first language, what would a person's excuse be for not knowing how to spell or how to speak English correctly?

Well, some people aren't great at spelling and some haven't been exposed to the use of proper grammar and spelling. And yes, I did use the word forte correctly.

anyone who tries to say they've never been exposed to proper grammar and/or spelling is just being lazy. Read a d@mn book or learn how to spell. It's not that hard. So I stand by what I said, unless English isn't your first language, there's no excuse.

I don't care much for the spelling correction or minor grammatical errors, but I cannot stand reading a long post that is completely void of any punctuation. Makes my head hurt trying to read it. Haha

What fun would that be?
Dec 6, 2014, 1:02 PM

Seriously, auto-correct mistakes and occasional, obvious flubs and misspellings are understandable. It's particularly tricky when posting from a tiny cell phone instead of a full-sized keyboard. Those are mistakes.
Then there's ignorance. Typically even that doesn't really matter, but if somebody is trying to make a point or is engaged in some kind of debate, then it's hard to take them seriously if they don't have a grasp of basic grammar or 5th grade English. "Your" means something entirely different from "you're". Words have meaning, and that's why it matters. Besides, you have to have pretty thick skin on here and learn to take things with a grade of slaw.

going through life making mistakes which cast a poor light on all of us. Toughen up that skin a bit and take constructive advice as it was meant, as helpful.
When someone can't tell the difference in to, too, and two or their, there, and they're or your and you're and yore someone has to step in an let you know. No one should be above a little lesson now and then. I have had people correct me on here and I thanked them.
Don't be so hypersensitive.

It's much more than "they're' and their and there and too and to. We all know this...
He's talking about the people who point out misspellings by putting the correct spelled word in the subject header.

I spell poorly or use bad grammar. They tried hard to teach me well, so I do my best every day to honor that. It's not that difficult to spell, or make your thoughts intelligible, especially with the correction tools we have available today.
I don't correct others for the most part; if they don't care how they come across, why should I?
That's my own honest feeling.
