Do people really think removing the confederate flag is

going to solve societies ills? Eliminate racism? Stop senseless murder?
IMO the confederate flag is just a symbol politicians are using to dodge the real problems for which many of those problems are the result of so many greedy morally bankrupt politicians.
Removing the confederate flag will not stop another incident like the one in Charleston from happening. Gun control is not the answer either.
Prayers go out to those families in Charleston. Prayers go out for our country too!

people together and that purpose provides people the opportunity to love and bridge their own differences. The flag did not create the murderer but it did create a greater opportunity to positively bridge the differences of those in South Carolina. Just my two cents.

E D U C A T I O N will F I X many of America's problems. But they would rather cut education spending while they are planting flowers and trees up and down our interstate highways. Raising the legal age for quitting from 17 to 18 will not fix education either. Quitting at 18, a kid will not finish HS in most instances if they fail 2 grades. Raise the age to 21, now that will make them study and pass grades so they can get the H&ll out of school by 17. But if they screw around and don't study and pass grades, they will be in school until their 21, and I don't see many of them doing that. Let parents take back control of their kids, and allow parents to put that belt back on their A$$. A ### flag didn't cause most of society's problems. Government not letting parents intimidate their kids when they are at a young age, and it becomes 10 times harder when they get older. America went to chit in a handbasket when the government started intimidating parent with jail or loss of their kids if the parents had to beat their A$$ES to make them do right. Our countries problems aren't in a flag. It's kids doing as they please by the time they are 8,9,10, years old, and they get much worse after puberty.

No, they're not that stupid. Most people understand that it won't stop racism anymore than a life than integration did or equal rights. But it is a step in the right direction. But most people also understand that that flag is as much a symbol of institutional racism and right wing racial hatred than it is of the Confederate States.
Taking down the flag solves 2 immediate problems. It shows the rest of the world that SC might finally consider stepping into the the 21st century and it takes away the insult to the black citizens of SC that are offended by it continuing to fly on public lands their taxes support.
The rest will only come with time and education.

Of course not. Nobody is claiming that.

Here is why it's coming down: That flag is a symbol of the Confederacy. The Confederacy came into existence primarily to preserve the institution of slavery. That flag was carried into battle by armies that were fighting to preserve the right to own slaves.
So yes, it's a symbol; it's a symbol of something bad for many of our citizens, citizens whose ancestors were denied their most basic human rights under the Confederacy. Nobody in their right mind has suggested that this will change or solve anything short term, but rather it's about our state no longer giving a place of prominence to a symbol that represents such a shameful time in our history.

Time for it to go to the museum. Nobody said it would be magical, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't move.
