I come in peace….Thoughts about the game

Both teams have talent, and either team could have won the game. I think the win had a lot to do with what Jeremy Pruitt brought to the table. He told the defensive players they were slow and overweight.
They trained hard over the summer to get into better shape, and JP taught basic fundamentals and not scheme. This allowed him to use more players and keep everyone fresh on defense.
We all bitched in the first half about not running Gurley more. He had 4 carries for 44 yds! After reading the coaches comments Sunday morning, the plan was to keep him fresh for the 2nd have and feed him the ball. I don't care if you have a DL made up of 4 All Americans, if they are tired, it's not good. Our other backs avg'd. over 7 yrds per carry, so it was not all Gurley.
Bottom line is JP stated we lost games over the last few years in the 4th qtr because of conditioning, and keeping players fresh. did something to fix it, and it seemed to work.
Your season is not over, it was a tough loss. We've started many years that way, and ended up in the thick of it at the end. Watson will be a stud, but it will take a little time. Good luck the rest of the year, and end the streak with USCe!

there is no shame losing to a team playing its best game

in 7 years, according to Tony Barnhart. If you can keep that up, this will be a special season for the Dawgs. Had a great time in Athens Saturday. We had the whole stadium concerned up until the last few minutes.
Good luck!

Georgia played its most complete game since 2007 4 5 506 520 < SEC Saturday: Five Burning Questions By Tony Barnhart So what did we learn about the SEC in the first weekend of the 2014 season? 1. Georgia played its most complete football game since beating Auburn in 2007. I’m never comfortable with reading a lot into a first game — good or bad. But I do believe Georgia’s 45-21 victory against No. 16 Clemson was the most complete game I’ve seen a Georgia team play since the Bulldogs beat No. 18 Auburn 45-20 in the “black jersey” game of 2007. With the score tied at 21 at the half, Georgia dominated all three phases of the game in the second half. The Bulldogs wore down Clemson with a withering running game (I said it before the game and I’ll say it again: a healthy Todd Gurley is the best running back in the country). The defense held Clemson to just 15 yards and just 22 plays with only one first down in the second half. The specials teams, which have been a weakness in recent years for Georgia, were a strength. Clemson had seven possessions in the second half starting at their 23, 6, 20, 8, 17, 19, and 25-yard lines. And Gurley returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. It’s only one game and it doesn’t mean as much if Georgia loses at South Carolina on Sept. 13. But it was a good start.

our offense did nothing in the second half because of adjustments your defense made at halftime. This caused our defense to be on the field all the time in the 2nd half and, as you said, they were worn out by early in the 4th quarter (and your defense had time to rest and stay fresh).
Also, Gurley was the big running weapon we didn't have and obviously made a difference.
Your defense was ready in the 2nd half but our offense made no adjustments at halftime or anytime in the 2nd half.
I had every reason to think as the 4th quarter started than the game was going to end close like last year but our defense ran out of gas quickly and that was it.

I agree on the assessment given to your DC. I think we have helped in two other areas:
1) Morris called a horrible game. The TEs for some reason were not a factor and we all heard that our TEs are an over match to your players and just simply can not be defended. Too many 3 and outs and yes any defense will be exhausted.
2) Losing our stud DE Crawford did hurt us from a conditioning standpoint of view. I did not watch a replay of the game and I could be mistaken about the next thought. I heard that Dabo said most of the runs at the end were to the outside and my guess is to the left side of our defense where Crawford would have been. So not having our starting DE did hurt us.
It is not the end of the season if we go undefeated. The defense outplayed UGA the first 3 quarters and if we had a good offense to stretch the game, this would have been a Clemson win.
Good luck to you too and kick the coots in their house.
