Most do. I saw lots of reservists and guard giving life and literally limb during two enlistments on active duty and also while in the reserves.
However, some do not. I quit on Charleston AFB because the reserve wing there is a welfare state. Sorry to say it, but 'tis. Tmail for details if you're that interested.
Anyway, the guard is pretty flexible and pretty lucrative, especially here in the southeast. Take from that what you want, but simply take it and think about it.
That might just maybe be what Balm was on about.
Personally, I don't think the California NG should try to recoup that money. They offered it and paid it.
