I can't help but notice that Tnet is getting soft

back in the day, Clemson fans were forged in fire. We sat through Tommy Bowden field goals on 3rd and 12, cheered for 7–6 victories, and convinced ourselves a trip to the Music City Bowl was a divine blessing. Those days hardened us. We were battle-tested, weather-worn, and grateful for any W, no matter how ugly.
Now? We’ve become soft and spoiled. A single three-and-out and the board fills with, “Fire everybody, Dabo’s lost it, Cade can’t read a defense!” If the Tigers don’t win by 40, someone starts a thread demanding the return of Danny Ford.
Close games used to be a badge of honor. We’d proudly say, “Hey, we only lost to Georgia by 10 this year—progress!” Today, beating Troy by a touchdown is treated like a national tragedy. Folks act like ESPN is going to revoke our past championships if the margin of victory dips under three scores.
So let’s be honest: Clemson hasn’t gone soft. The team still grinds, It’s the fans.

We forget the years after Danny. When just making a bowl game was an accomplishment. We floundered for a lot of years. After the success we had form 2011 through 2020, we came to expect a lot more. I for one am not satisfied with the last few years, but I remember the real lean years. I have been a Clemson fan for over 50 years. I like being a consistent winning team, and no one can deny Dabo has given us that. So I am not ecstatic over our success lately but, I remember a lot worse. So keep things in perspective, we are now a winning program, and have been a long time.

As a student, I saw:
54-7 FSU 2000 38-3 UNC 2001 38-6 NCST 2002 60 or whatever to whatever TX Tech 2002 30-0 UGA 2003
The greatest triumph was the 2003 Peach Bowl win over UT to finish 9-4.
Perspective does help. It doesn't make everything we just watched ok or acceptable, but it helps.

Thanks for trying to “right” the fans ship. So basically, in the “very lean football years”, there were no expectations so mediocre or less results were ok, or the norm? Fast forward 50-60 years and it should be the same? Geez grandpa, those don’t sound like the “good ol’ days” ..

Soft? Really? How about we now expect excellence. We knew we’d dip eventually but I didn’t expect that dip to last as long as it has. This was suppose to be the year we fought for another NC. Instead it’s the same as the past 4. We lose a lot of talent off this team and will be even worse next year. So where’s the hope when recruiting has fallen off and we don’t use the portal heavily.
Sorry but I never wanted to see the Tommy Bowden days again. Unfortunately we are headed right back there. Only difference is Tommy beat the coots more often. 2-2 the last 4 years.
And please save me the pre-Covid Clemson stats. We all know what we used to be. That Clemson isn’t coming back until drastic changes are made.

Why were we “supposed” to be in the fight for the national championship this year? What changed from last year besides a new DC?
I didn’t buy into the undefeated/Heisman preseason hype and I’m not buying into the sky is falling talk now. But then again, I have always been realistic with my hopes.

Realistic?

Yes, we were SUPPOSED to be in the fight for a natty. In the playoffs last year and now a senior QB, more veteran receiver corp, an allegedly better OL, supposedly elite D line & backers, and yes, a massive upgrade at the DC position. But all we have is more of the same we have seen the past 5 years. You didnt buy into it? Great, but #### near everyone else did.

Yea. I guess I have to see something to believe it. Good or bad. What I saw was:
In the playoffs last year and now the same QB, receiver corp, and OL. One new addition to the D line & backers, and yes, hopefully, a massive upgrade at the DC position. So I’m not surprised at more of the same.

The Clemson PR machine back then did not do roundsbout predictions of competing for national championships.
The fans angst thus far in the 2025 season is the byproduct of the success of the Clemson hype machine vs the mediocre play (from the offensive side if the ball) performance.

We are fans no matter if we lose every game, it’s not what we want but we won’t win them all and we will never please the media that loves to make our standards unrealistic.
No team fits the hype we had coming in, it was rat poison period!
The coots don’t decide if we are any good, we do! Just look at them and tell them it’s 78 to 27 or whatever, they’ll never catch up 😂🤥

Could you imagine the reaction of some of these folks on here if SCar were to go on another 5 win streak?
Or if FSU were to roll up to DV this year and do a repeat of the 2013 game?
We might have to do wellness checks

Just my opinion.
I think Dabo hit the nail on the head in his post game press conference. He said the expectations are high, which I agree. We had Watson and Lawrence back to back, the offense balled out and the defense was unbeatable. Once they left, the bar was set so high and now it feels like a "disappointing" time (which isn't the case at all). At the end of the day, as long as Clemson wins, I'm happy. Whether is by 1 point, or 40.
Its not how you start, its how you finish.

I can imagine the meltdowns if they had to witness Tommy West come back as our head coach....it would be epic.
