The next move that expedites us to the SEC
Aug 6, 2022, 11:58 AM

Hearing and reading a lot about the BIG 10 signing a TV rights deal with NBC, this would start at the end of 2023 season. NBC wants to pair ND with the BIG 10 and have super football weekends paired with the NFL on Sundays. NBC is dubbing the move would make the BIG 10 the NFL of CFB conferences. The reports basically say this would get Sankey’s attention and go for Clemson. All sounds like reasonable dots to connect, the SEC isn’t worried about brining more eyes and revenue, but power and brands. Would love to see it and puts a much more condensed timeline on our move, which would be awesome.
Happy Saturday, only 4 more Saturdays + 2 days to kickoff!

You know I was thinking about that yesterday. If ND gets their 75 million from NBC in football anyway and stays independent and leaves their other sports parked in the ACC that is going to put all ACC schools at a huge disadvantage in Basketball and all the other sports with ND making all that money. Why in the heck would the ACC let them remain in as partial members"?

Because that was the agreement when Notre Dame joined. The ACC needs ND more than they need us. The SEC is not where we need to be because we lose all our nearby rivals, no soccer, much harder to compete in all sports and we would just be another member. If fans would take an honest (not biased) look, they would see on a national level we would never be a top sports team in a league that has historical powers like Bama, Georgia, LSU, Texas and Oklahoma. Add teams from the Big12 and PAC12 and continue to be the top football team and build a league that has great baseball, basketball and soccer teams.

They get in because of name recognition but normally get it handed to them when they do get in.

Not sure where you get ND is weak? Been in CFP 2-3 times since it started. Their baseball team makes regionals. Their soccer and basketball teams are often ranked. Their hockey team is stout. Their women sports are strong with the basketball team being very highly competitive. Almost every university in the nation would love to be that weak minus a select few.

Sankey can propose membership, but 3/4 of the members must vote in favor of admission. Which 11 SEC schools are going to vote Clemson in?

After the SEC’s new ESPN deal, I’m guessing it will take over 100M in new tv revenue to make financial sense to add a new member. The only school I see at that level is ND (which will not join the SEC). Otherwise, it doesn’t make financial sense for the SEC to go past 16 teams right now.

The reports I heard and read said financial face value of adding teams is not a concern, they want the best conference with the largest TV deal and really value their standing as the NFL minor league and the BIG 10 making the moves that lead to this and likely adding the NC schools from the ACC, Sankey would go after Clemson, FSU, Miami and say, ball game. They want to lock down the south and the beat brands.

If Sankey says vote yes, all members will vote yes… see Texas and Texas AM, they never would have voted yes but Sankey told them to and it was unanimous.

There is a recent CBS article discussing a Big 12 / ND pairing on NBC.

In my opinion SC may be one of the few members to support Clemson joining the SEC since it would now be a conference game. Plus SC and Clemson rarely compete for the same recruits. It is a $’s proposition for the SEC though. Can Clemson add to the per team $ distribution if included in the SEC? That is the key issue. In addition, can the GOR be broken? If not, it is a 2030’s proposition at best.

The Gamecocks will cast the first yes vote because McMaster will tell them to. Because of their governance structure they have to do what the state elected officials tell them to do. Even with Clemson’s board structure if the shoe was on the other foot, Clemson would vote U of SC in at this point in history.

I saw that too this past week. I think it’s a brilliant move for NBC/ Big 10. Pairing College and NFL games is a smart move.
Let’s see what the SEC decides to do!

Which division y'all want ot be in ? Lets just assume Texas is put in the East and Oklahoma is put in the West. Does it have to be the East to retain our rivalry ? Suits me fine plus I'd like to rekindle the rivalry with Georgia. But I must say playing Alabama every year could easily escalate into one of college football's most anticipated games of the year

The SEC is talking about a 3 perm / 6 rotating schedule once UTex and OU are in. Not sure they will have divisions anymore.

Unfortunate, because a single 16 or 18 team conference without divisions isn’t as much fun as a divisional format. (In my opinion)

I think it's a mistake but what do I know. It seems as if they're throwing some established rivalries out the window
