is another major blow to the credibility of the sport as a whole. It sends another "why bother" message if you aren't in the SEC (presuming Bama would replace them).

Committee has said that teams that lose in a Conference Championship game will not be penalized as heavily as a regular season loss. That comment leads me to believe that SMU will still be in the playoffs unless they totally just crap the bed and their starting QB has season ending injury like Travis last year.

I keep seeing comments that the committee will not punish the losers of the conference games but have not seen any proof of this. Does anyone have proof of a committee member making this statement or is it another media fabrication?

If Clemson wins it is possible that both Clemson and SMU get in. However, no matter what happens Alabama will get in over Miami. IMO Alabama has the two worst losses of any 9-3 team.

Welcome to being screwed by the NCAA. We’ve been experiencing it for 40 years since we had the Pony Excess.
I’ve said for 2 months, the only way we get in is win the ACC. If we lose we will be #13, ‘bama is in.

FWIW i think most of us believe SMU should have already secured their spot regardless of ACCCG result. Unfortunately, each loss in the SEC only counts as half a loss so there’s that.

To appease the B10/SEC (who want the lion's share of everything & have all the power). Only way i think SMU pulls out an at-large should they fall in Charlotte is if the game comes down to the wire or goes to OT. Similar to the 2022 TCU team when they fell in OT in B12CG (I thought for sure the Horned Frogs were getting left out when that happened but committee ended up taking them)

We were desperate to get away from sportswriters crowning the champion. Now we choose the participants based on how many viewers they'll have tuned in to watch. Bama, UGA, OSU, Tenn, Mich, Penn St, Texas and ND are must haves. SMU, Boise and Indiana are ratings losers. Oregon is a hope they lose quick. We're a will do in a pinch.
All about mega $$$$.
