Reason Deon Cain will leave
Jan 7, 2018, 8:51 PM
|
|
Do you really think he’s going to risk another year in college football banking on a freshman to come in and perform at an elite level?
Deon’s stats were better 2 years ago as a back up WR than they were this year as a go to receiver because of KB’s limited passing game. Not trying to hate on KB, but he just can’t connect with passes down field. He is only good for deep balls (inconsistent) and out patterns.

Well it doesn’t help that when KB puts it on the money Cain drops it. Cain has always had the dropsies...ALWAYS. And when he got his opportunity to be the #1 guy this season those drops increased. I honestly don’t recall another WR we’ve had that dropped as many as he has. Some of them were for huge yardage or TDs.

I believe Deon's stock will rise next year.

I believe TL will be the starting QB and his CRISP passes will make Dean a HUGE threat and increase his yardage and TD production. I don't think Deon will be drafted in top 4 rounds this year, but next year he could be in 1st or 2nd round. That's why he should stay.
He definitely needs a trusted person in the NFL to give him an honest assessment of his draft prospects this year. I doubt anyone on this site can provide that information.

You see a problem with a QB who is 12-2? Remember the people down the road who are excited about their 7th 9-win season in 100+ years of football?

he has to assume that KB may be the starter. There is no reason for him to return. KB probably cost him 100's of thousands. Cain's is meant to catch deep bombs. He is similar to Martavis in that regard. He is not a possession WR.

Whether it’s short or long or in between... its fundamental. Only good on long balls ? He should come back and prove he can catch all types of passes.

Deon Cain couldnt carry Martavis or Mike Williams jock strap this year. If he wants to be in that discussion he better stay and work his tail off.

Deon did have drops this year, but has also made some incredible catches (Louisville game last year) He has the talent to be in the NFL for a while.
What he does is stretch the field, and unfortunately KB couldn’t make the throws to do that. If he stays and KB is the starter, he will have about the same production. He also will have snaps taken away from him by tee.
I appreciate what KB did for us this year. After all, he did take us to the playoffs. But he is a running quarterback that can throw short and intermediate passes.

And not to mention what I said in my original post. He had better stats as a back up receiver with a good passing QB than he had as feature WR with KB. Even with the drop issues.
He also has been projected as a second rounder if my memory is correct

Cain has had a much better college career than Bryant and it's not even close. I'd argue he's even more polished of a receiver than Bryant as well.

You assume that Bryant is the starter all next season. I’m betting either Lawrence or Johnson catch him.

I would submit that the reason he leaves is because he knows he might not even start in 2018 with Overton and Higgins breathing down his neck.

I shouted, "Now THAT was a Mike Williams catch!!" when Cain
Jan 8, 2018, 5:42 PM

... launched himself way up above the Tide DB to snag that 50/50 ball at it's highest point and move us into Bama territory when the game was still on the line.
It was a game-changing play, but you know what ... it didn't happen.
The same play Mike Williams made over and over again in last years game was right there for Dion Cain and he blew it.
I refuse to hammer Cain for the loss, but I also refuse to agree with people who argue that Kelly Bryant didn't give Cain a chance to be a hero.
