Really can't evaluate

We really can't evaluate where this program stands until we have a reasonable level of QB play. The offense has been so bad at times it is clearly going to have an effect on the defense (which overall has been solid) but could be even better if complimentary football.
Clearly the talent is nowhere near what it was from 2015-2020. There is no Mike Williams, T, Power Rangers, etc. I can't name on player on current depth chart who would have been ahead of any starter on 2018 Depth Chart.
However, with the coaches having no confidence in and the QBs themselves having no confidence in the downfield passing game defenses are only having to defend a limited area.
Solid QB play in 2021-2023 would have helped alleviate some of the loss of overall talent.
You are as only as good as your QB. Just think of the DJ 6-28 S.Car game. One of worst performances I have ever since from a QB at any level.
My son played at Furman the last 4 years and the addition of Tyler Huff at QB took that team, with almost the same roster, from 6-5 to back to back 10 win seasons, Southern Conference title and nice playoff runs. Tyler's just had the ability to make the offense work and defenses defend the whole field.

I'd make the counter point the wrs are the limiting factor the past 4 seasons. The OL was a huge issue last year but the 3 seasons before that they were OK, not good but OK. The wrs have been decimated with injury and now we fans got a look at what the supposed best and healthy upperclassmen were and they looked the same as the fill ins the past 3 seasons with more mental mistakes, ball tracking issues, and quiting on routes issues.

I am sorry, but a "healthy" Turner or Randall isn't the answer either.

The WR room is bad because we have simply not recruited well at that position or at RB, QB.
This is why the offense is bad. No firepower.

That's why I said "supposed best" and specified upper classmen.
Wesco and Moore haven't been ruined by Grisham yet and I'd wager my years salary they are better and more nuanced as a wr than Randall and Turner.
Bottom line wr play and scheme have to improve.

Of course WRs are not close to what we have had but just hard to evaluate when ball placement has been terrible. I agree kind of chicken or egg, but DJ the other night just confirmed how bad he can be. Sure better receivers may have helped but hard to make that evaluation when QB play is so bad. FSU guys were getting open DJ just missed them.

Some of the games DJ had (6-28) SC game I am not sure it would have mattered if he had Nuke, Sammy, Mike, T and Jerry Butler.

What has happened to the ole Clemson Razzle Dazzle (trick plays) which seem to work pretty well? Have we just abandoned that for throwing screens in the flat that work 2 out of 10 times, if that at all? I just disappointed that our offense doesn’t do more. C’mon Tigers, get it together this Saturday against App State. Go Tigers, Fight-Fight-Fight!!!
