all the talk about how many minority coaches are in the NFL. All these topics make racism alive and well....What if we had the white essence awards or whitey oscars....sooooo stupid...why can't we just be one???

However, for a really long time, the awards shows, power groups, etc were the white guys clubs. History, as a former history teacher, was the white guys and our poor little colored brothers. If you are looking for us all to be one, don't hold your breath. Human nature seems to be a long, long, long.... series of someone wanting to suppress someone else. I suspect that the first caveman to stand upright lorded it over his stooped brethren. Getting off soap box now.

Just because NASCAR and Country Music are mainly white, does NOT make them pro-white awards.
Groups such as the NAACP, networks like BET, awards shows, etc. ARE strictly PRO-BLACK.
I'm all for it. Doesn't bother me a BIT. But there is a double standard.
Simply put, whites would be considered racist if there was White Entertainment Television, or a white version of the NAACP.

Me? I understand that we're talking about less than 50 years ago that a large portion of our population was systematically and violently oppressed. I'm willing to cut them some slack rather than argue they shouldn't have their own awards shows.
Honestly, can't see how it offends anyone. Or, let me rephrase that, I can't see how it offends anyone who hasn't been systematically oppressed as a culture in recent memory.

But for now, I'm not sure why us white folks would care that another group was throwing a party we weren't invited to. It's an awards show and if a group feel they need one closed to their own group so be it.

for NAACP Image awards, fyi. Not sure if they ever won anything though.
Those type of award shows started because of racism against minorities, and at some point, if perceived racism goes away, the award shows themselves will go away.
Personally, I see them more like the country music awards, or the teen choice awards, or any segmented genre of entertainment award show. Many of those receiving nominations at the Essence awards will also receive nominations at the bigger award shows that combine genres. Many won't. Just like how many that get nominated at the MTV movie awards or teen choice awards will also get nominated at the Oscars or whatever. Additionally, many won't.
Getting upset at this is beyond stupid.

They have nominated white actors/singers in the past. It's a genre more than anything. It's like the daytime emmy awards. Technically, it discriminates against primetime and late night, but who cares?
It was started b/c of racism, that I agree on. I don't think it's a racist award show.

Same reason the US can't really legalize weed. They would have to eliminate too many jobs associated with "keeping it alive."
There always seems to be folks wanting it to be some underlying chase for attention, or hatred. Nah....all about the dollar.
Can you imagine how much money all that makes, and the jobs associated with creating all that mess? I'm sure there are no statistics anywhere, as that would be racist to evaluate. But, I'm sure it's a lot.
