Back then you could smoke some weed and drink a case of cold ones drive up a Tree and the Cops didn't give a rats patutie. Lived through it and matured of course. Today probably be under the jail haha

Well, I was young in the 50's and 60's, and never saw MJ

until I was at Clemson, while students snuck beer into the dorms until the admin made it legal to have it.

The kids that smoked pot kept large bags of it, as it was cheap, and nobody messed with them. It was common at off campus parties to see kids rolling what looked like cigars, smoking, then later heading out to look for food.

As for the drinking and driving, a couple of high school friends in Rock Hill were stopped by the police for erratic driving; were found drunk and were told to leave their cars at the stop, then driven home. The police walked them to the front doors, told their parents, then left. Both of their Dads then proceeded to stomp their behinds, took away their cars and grounded them at home for a couple of weeks. Times were different....LOL

Back then your parents finding out was a whole lot scarier than the cops putting you in cuffs and taking you to the station. At least according to my dad and and uncle. The cops would say "Don't make me call your father" and that scared them straight because they knew life would be hell if their old man (my grandfather) found out.

Sadly today Cops have become some para-military, jack booted

arrogant ###### with a chip on their shoulders. They forgot the "To Protect and to SERVE" slogan long ago. Many wear haircuts like they are (still) in the Marines. Law enforcement today seems to draw a ton of 2 digit IQ candidates with a craving for authority over others. We need more Andy Taylor type law enforcement.

I knew the cops in Clemson when

I was there in the 70's. One told me about a pickup truck he stopped on 123 late one night. He asked the driver if he had been drinking and he said yes sir. He asked him how many he had and the guy said 15 beers. He wife sitting beside him corrected him and said no you had one on their porch before we left. The guy said that's right honey it was 16 beers. My cop buddy asked his wife how many she had and she said oh I don't drink. Cop said how about you sliding over here and driving him home and don't let him drive when y'all been out to a party. She said OK and away they went. Cop told me I just couldn't arrest somebody that was that dang honest. LOL

I grew up in the 70's and 80's

and used to have the same attitude you do. "No big deal" right?

Then I spent the 90's, 00's, and early 10's in the fire service and far too many nights using the Jaws of Life to either unwrap a vehicle from around some drunk who ran up the side of a tree or some innocent sober person who some drunk hit. Had to wash entirely too much blood from the highway, had to help the coroner look on the side of the road for far too many body parts, and had to was blood out of my uniform far too many times.

No big deal indeed.

Could be worse...

My brother and his ex-wife were driving through town one night and a highway patrolman pulled him over for not wearing a seat belt. When he approached the window the officer said, "License and Registration sir, I pulled you over for seat belt violation". Before my brother could say a word his ex-wife leaned over and said, "Yeah....he always forgets that thing when he's drinking."

True Story
